Good Morning. It's Monday 10th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Leeds squad in plane drama

Emergency procedures were put in place after the plane carrying the Leeds Utd squad filled with smoke as they landed at Leeds Bradford airport. The incident occurred at 8pm last night as the players returned from South London following their 2-1 loss at Selhurst Park.

As smoke filled the plane, other aircraft were instructed to circle, in case fire engulfed the runway. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, and normal service has been resumed.

According to an LBA spokesman"The aircraft landed at LBA and subsequently stopped on the runway with reports of smoke in the cockpit, other planes have been told to circle and the aircraft has been evacuated." “Precautionary emergency procedures were followed yesterday evening at LBA, however nobody was harmed in the incident and the flight landed safely.

    Leeds rue missed opportunities

Leeds winless start to the season (away from home) continued yesterday lunchtime, as Crystal Palace came from behind to deliver more misery on Jesse Marsch's Leeds. The Whites started brightly, and had already squandered several chances before Pascal Struijk put them head on ten minutes. Brenden Aaronson weaved majestically through a packed penalty area before striking at goal. His effort crashed against the post; fortunately, the rebound landed kindly to the Dutchman, who drilled the ball past Guaita.

Leeds continued to carve out opportunities, only to be thwarted by a lack of quality in the final third. All too common, the hosts equalised with their first real effort on goal. Carthorse Cooper tried a clever turn, immediately losing possession, and had to concede a free kick in a dangerous position, from which Odsonne Édouard levelled halfway through the first half.

Even after conceding, Leeds looked the more dangerous side, and continued to press, yet as the game went on, Patrick Viera's side were gaining confidence, and momentum. The pendulum begun to sway in Palace's favour in the second half, and with fifteen minutes remaining, snatched the winner. Eberechi Eze danced around a couple of defenders as he tried to line up a shot. His opportunity came as Cooper lunged forward towards the former England U21 player, missed, allowing Eze the space to convert, giving Meslier no chance.

    Should Leeds fans worry

After a spectacular start to their campaign, Leeds find themselves dropping further and further towards the danger zone. The loss at Selhurst Park was their third of the season, and with two points from their last five games, fans are beginning to worry.

Having been busy during the Summer transfer window, few would have expected that two of the promoted teams would have had such a good start to the season, yet Bournemouth and Fulham are flying high in 8th and 9th position respectively, whilst the likes of Villa, Wolves and Leicester City have endured wretched starts. Unfortunately, most of the teams below Leeds have enough talent to at least get themselves out of trouble.

Last season, we had dozens of injuries, but what excuse can we give now? Marsch had a fully fit team yesterday!

The more i look at it, the worse the Bamford miss looks, why if recovering from injury is he not playing in the U23'S to regain (if it's possible) match sharpness.
I hope he and Cooper don't start against Arsenal otherwise i feel an embarrassing score could be on the cards. :(

    Hi everyone
I am worried, as the league position we are in flatters us, don't forget we have only played two of the top ten teams, so it's gonna get a lot tougher than this, i realy hope the players are up for the challenge.
<sorry> i hate being negative, but their hasn't been much to be positive about lately on the field.

Truth is there isn’t much to choose between a lot of sides in this league. Look at the games we’ve played. Brighton outplayed us, no one else has over 90… but we haven’t really dominated anyone either. Periods of ascendancy periods on the back foot.

What differentiates is taking advantage of the good periods and riding out the troughs. It’s going to be fine margins… at the moment we are losing/drawing games we could (not should) be drawing or winning. Little errors at both ends of the pitch. We need to catch a break before it starts to impact confidence.

Milky I think maybe confidence already shot. We were not brilliant yesterday but we were dominating the game and should have scored earlier than we did. We carried on running them ragged and should have scored another couple, but as soon as they scored we allowed them back in and then gradually got worse. Passing wasn't the best anyway but got worse and worse and looked like we gave up

    This sums it up.

Last year we were getting well beaten by half time in alot of games.

That's not happened this season yet. We look a better side. We just need to click up front. We'll hammer someone soon.

We need a forward. Bamfords not fit and wont stay fit. We need a top striker bought in and a left back, then hope Sturrick can displace Cooper in the centre

    Morning all <ok>

can’t argue with much of that- since many of us were saying that re transfers all summer <laugh>

struijk cooper is an interesting one. I actually think pascal has done great at left back. Far better than I thought he would. I’d definitely like to see him back in his best position at left centre back after his confidence crisis there last year.

Historically we defend better with coops there though - but I’m not denying he’s looked an old man since his return and yesterday wasn’t his finest.

Yeah I think sturrick has earned the right to have a chance in the centre, but I'd want a better left back in to take his place <ok>

Bamford's definitely not firing yet and the question is will he ever fully regain his speed ? Lot's of players are never the same after a long term injury, logically though there's no reason why not (given the type of injury), but then he's a couple of years older now as well.

Hopefully he now remains fit until the WC and then gets to have a break before coming back even stronger at xmas.

Cooper, Ayling, Klich & Forshaw however would appear to be nearing their end with us.

Why is Liverpool vs Leeds kicking off at 7:45pm on a Saturday?

    By Luke Bosher

Liverpool and Leeds United face off on October 29 at the unusual time of 7.45pm BST on a Saturday.

Everton’s home defeat by Manchester United raised eyebrows earlier this month after it was given an irregular TV time slot of 7pm BST on a Sunday night.

Here, The Athletic explains why these kick-off times were chosen…

So, what are the ‘traditional’ weekend kick-off times?

The Everton vs United game and Liverpool vs Leeds games kick-off times are a departure from what we have become accustomed to in the Premier League over the past few seasons. Games have tended to take place at 12.30pm, 3pm and 5.30pm on Saturdays, 2pm and 4.30pm on Sundays, and 8pm on Fridays and Mondays.

BT Sport customarily broadcasts the Saturday 12.30pm match, while Sky Sports shows all the others, bar the Saturday 3pms — which are protected by the English football blackout law.

What’s the reason behind the later kick-off times then?

BT Sport had selected the Everton vs United fixture as their match of the game week.

However, Erik ten Hag’s United side played a Europa League group stage game against Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus on the Thursday beforehand. If their match against Everton was selected for the usual BT slot, it would leave fewer than 48 hours between games.

And for this season, BT has committed to using the 7pm Sunday slot if one of the sides involved in their match is playing in Europe on the Wednesday or Thursday night beforehand.

Later this month, Liverpool will host Leeds on Saturday 29 at 7.45pm live on Sky Sports in the UK. Klopp’s side face Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday, November 1. This means they cannot play during Sky’s usual 4.30pm slot on the Sunday.

Has the 12.30pm slot been an issue?

The 12.30pm slot has come under criticism from players, managers and pundits, particularly with respect to teams playing in Europe.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has regularly been outspoken on the issue.

In April, Liverpool played a Champions League semi-final against Villarreal on the Wednesday and a Premier League game against Newcastle United on the Saturday at 12.30pm.

Klopp voiced his concerns, saying: “It’s just not OK.

“If we play a Champions League semi-final, if you find another league in the world and another broadcaster where they put one team who is in the semi-final, might be two, might be three English teams, on a 12.30… what?

“What are you doing? Why would you do that? So that’s why it’s so difficult (to win a quadruple), but nothing happens because nobody cares.’ ”

    Will this happen again?

The Premier League has already announced its TV picks up until the World Cup break in mid-November, with a few similar instances occurring.

On Saturday, November 12, Arsenal travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers at 7.45pm. The north London side play their Carabao Cup third-round tie against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday, November 9.

That game will be shown on Sky Sports in the UK.

    Has this happened before?

Yes — last season, Liverpool hosted Tottenham Hotspur at 7.45pm on Saturday, May 7, a game that was broadcast by BT Sport in the UK. When the Premier League announced the broadcast schedule for May, it was still possible Liverpool would play a Champions League semi-final on the Wednesday before — meaning a potentially tight turnaround if the match had been scheduled for BT’s customary Saturday at 12.30pm slot.

These timeslots are not new to the Premier League either. Once the 2019-20 season resumed after the pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fans were not allowed in stadiums and every game was televised in its own slot. That meant that matches often kicked off at 7.45pm on Saturdays and 7pm on Sundays.

During the 2020-21 season, where fans were absent for the majority of the campaign and again every match was handed its own TV slot, 8pm on Saturdays and 7pm on Sundays were regular kick-off times.

Sneaky feeling that Forest will get something tonight as their home form has been half decent even if they haven't quite got the results yet.
