Dunno what's wrong - but I think the "getting old" hypothesis is an over-simplification. It's a contributory factor, but there's more to it than that imo.
I think it's probably a combination of many things... - Fitness is lacking - aging players - lack of quality midfield options - players out of form - players trying to settle in - change of tactics - teams figuring out a way of playing against us - no longer pressing (could be for reasons highlighted already) - injuries - drop in confidence - missing players that have left Etc
You do get the fact that most players turned up about 23/24 and after 7 years they are over 40 and by extension no longer spring chickens lol. Milner 36 going on 96 Henderson 32 well past it. Van dijk 32 Thaigo 32 Salah 30 Frimino 30 Matip 31 And so forth and so on. Most managers last 18 months. The difference here is over loyalty. Your own former manager learned from shankley and paisley. Ferguson was ruthless mostly but in the end as he got old he made the same error with giggs and neville and Scholes and even vidic. All got old and slow and past it. The fact is Liverpool have just plain let players get over the hill. It was widely rumoured last January that salah's data from the science side clearly showed he was slowing down. We've given @Jimmy Squarefoot favourite player henderson a massive contract. This is the error, not you childish 7 year itch wum. You could be far more devastatingly critical if you'd even just scratch the surface a bit and get past the silly stuff.
Would make a tiny bit of sense if it were the same players. Konate, Tsimikas, Thiago, Jota, Nunez and Diaz haven't been at the club THAT long. Klopp is currently the longest serving manager in the PL too btw
What do folks think is going to happen after the World Cup? Every club will know we are in dire straits in midfield and will try to screw us over for any half decent players or pawn off basket cases like the badger on us. This is not the first time the transfer policy has landed us in the mire
I understand what you are both saying and why but just look at his usual exit time from a club. Now this may well be down to the owners ("you came a very close second last year with these players, why do you need so many new one's") or it could be down to Klopp himself, knows how to build a team from scratch but is either too loyal or doesn't quite know how to replace players individually when the time comes. Quick answer on the Fergie quote, yes he held on too long at the end because he knew he was going and wanted the new man to have the money to pick his own players. That said he still managed to win the league with what he had.
Considering the relative form of each team coming in to the game and we're away from home, we were only a debatable penalty decision away or two from a draw or even 3 points. Yes, we conceded 2 bad goals, but we scored 2 very good ones and dominated possession away from home. It's not all doom and gloom.
I know. Just looking at it from an owners perspective when they are looking for reasons not to spend more than they want (or feel necessary).
It’s simple - ageing team which has had a lack of investment over the year. We won the CL and signed Adrian and Van Der Berg. Year after year - we just didn’t want to show some balls and take the squad to the best level. Now we have a midfield which literally has no legs. It’s no wonder we constantly get overrun on the counter and in transitions. On a separate topic - to suggest Fabinho is anything less than world class DM is laughable. His impact on the team is the same as Mo, VVD and Allison. He’s going through a poor run of form at the moment but he’s not been helped by the poor tactics where he is constantly exposed and outnumbered. Henderson has been worse and for longer periods yet Fab was dropped for Hendo. Says it all and we deserve everything we’re getting right now.
Lots of talk about henderson and rumours around today. Of all people he would be bottom of the list of someone saying somethjng that is being reported. Atm it’s lots of Twitter stuff making allegations but fa are ‘investigating’. What was said who knows.
I don’t believe it. I don’t rate him as a footballer but he is a model professional. But hey ho - if he’s found guilty, Klopp may finally be forced not to play him. Silver lining
And on Mo - again, he’s not in the best form but we’re putting him out wide and too far away from the box. It’s been the theme all season. I don’t understand what Klopp and pep are doing
I find it hard to believe but who knows. Im sure if he has said somethjng then will be dealt with but innocent until proven guilty. Although according to Twitter he’s the worse human being on earth right now
As poor as we were (defensively), it still took two dodgy penalty decisions and two injuries for arsenal to get the win. I think a draw would have been fairer
