France’s oil strikes push on as petrol station queues worsen

Long tailbacks of vehicles continued to grow outside French service stations on Sunday as petrol supply was hit by pay strikes at refineries run by the oil giants, TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil.

The leftwing CGT union is leading a refinery workers’ strike for better pay during the cost-of-living crisis, and for a share of companies’ high profits.

Currently, three of Total’s refineries are blocked, including its largest, in Normandy, as well as a fuel depot near Flandres in the north, after a blockade began almost two weeks ago.

Everything flowing nicely on the Cote D'Azur. Just returned from a very nice meal in Juan les Pins. Carefully designed topless swimsuits etc.

French nuclear supply and maintenance disrupted by strike
    Reuters

PARIS, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Strikes by workers reduced power generation at EDF's (EDF.PA) nuclear reactors in France by 1.4 gigawatts (GW) by 1018 GMT on Thursday and lowered hydropower output by 220 megawatts (MW), the company said.

The strike is part of a larger social movement throughout France - over wage demands, pensions and purchasing power as inflation spirals across Europe - that has seen refining strikes restrict fuel supply in the north of the country.

And yet Macron seems to be jogging along quite nicely. Whereas Batshit Lizzie is basking in a record -47 poll rating. Worse than either Tubs or Theresa. Boo hoo it ain't fair!

French Nobel literature winner, others urge protests against Macron as inflation bites

PARIS, Oct 9 (Reuters) - A group of French intellectuals including Nobel literature prize winner Annie Ernaux on Sunday urged people to join protests planned by the left for next week, accusing President Emmanuel Macron of not doing enough to help the poor cope with high prices while some companies make windfall profits.

"Emmanuel Macron is using inflation to widen the wealth gap, to boost capital income at the expense of the rest", the group of 69 signatories, including writers, film directors and university teachers, said in a text published in the Journal Du Dimanche.

On life support: can France's struggling healthcare system be saved?

    "It's pretty catastrophic"

"We don’t have the adequate structure, neither the adequate conditions, nor the adequate tools, or enough staff. It's getting complicated.” That was the picture Maxime Bartolini painted for me. The young accident and emergency nurse works at the Fréjus St. Raphaël hospital, on the French Riviera. He had the look of someone who had been through a lot.

"We’ve been working at a sustained, high pace, since December," he explained.

"The closure of the secondary hospital departments at night, it’s meant we’ve had to reorganise. The ambulances are also overwhelmed. It's a danger for the patient, and we're overloaded. We do more than our duties, we help each other. We do what we can, but now we're running out of solutions, it's pretty catastrophic."
