I'm a bit worried about this one for some reason. Does the form book say I should worry? No. Does the league position say I should worry? No. Are Accrington ripping up trees in the league lately? Not really. So that's why I'm a bit worried then. We all know we should win this given home record and so on and to be honest there is no reason really to believe we won't or can't. You can do it lads. COYG
A tough, scrappy first half littered with fouls. Whittaker in particular was baulked and tripped incessantly with no protection from the ref. Late in the half, Scarr and Conneely crunched into each other as the ball ran loose between them. My impression is that it was 6 of one and half a dozen of the other but bizarrely the ref sent BOTH off but then gave Argyle a free kick. Go figure. Both lay prone for a while so punches weren’t thrown so perhaps something was said. In the post match interview though Schumacher said he’d spoken to the ref and pointed out 2 red cards was stupid and if both had to be punished, yellows would have kept the balance without disadvantaging both teams with 10 men. The ref didn’t seem to have indicated other than both had been sent off for the same foul. Crazy. With a defender gone Mumba went off and we started to look more secure and Randell for Butcher started to give us superiority. By the end, we ran out as justified 3-0 winners but it certainly didn’t start like that.
I have to say that this one was perhaps the worst game of football I've seen for quite a while now. Argyle were not very good. Accrington were perhaps a bit worse and the Officials were a joke pretty much all the way through. Where to start....... We started badly with hardly a touch of the ball going to a team mate. I could and am talking about both sides. You look at the stuff on offer and wonder how one of the sides involved could possibly be top of the league. The Ref seemed to let a fair bit go and the lino on the Lyndhurst side was.........typical of the linos on the Lyndhurst side. Which is crap and can't see anything no matter how under his nose it is. That was throughout the match not just the start. We scored although not sure how it happened given the ball control and passing that went on. Maybe it was the one move that deserved something. Then just before half time the Ref took over the Stupid step all on his own. It was a 50/50 challenge admittedly full on. Both players got hurt equally. How anyone could tell from it what was done to who by the other is a bit beyond me. The only way you could do a double red would be to say that both players were off the ground and over the ball. Not from where I was sitting. The next is if that's the case then it has to be a dropped ball surely. Nope it is a free kick to Argyle. If that's the case their player fouled our's and the Red should have been for him alone. That would shave been wrong also. The Ref should have done nothing in my view and if he really thought he should have then a yellow each and shake hands. Mumba wasn't subbed to make way for anyone. I think Schuey took him off before he joined the other two. Right decision. The second half was almost as bad as the first and there was a good deal of diving about by both sides in fairness. By this time I think the Ref had got bored and decided not to book people for it. We scored two more. Cosgrove was almost determined to score one and eventually did. Well taken goal but not in keeping with the game overall. Then Hardie came on and he was determined not to be left out. He eventually got his and it was three to Argyle. The only thing right about this result was the result. I do not want to witness any more games like this one please.
Not dissimilar to the Sheffield Wednesday game Sensible, except they were clearly trying to make a battle out of it and should have had 3 sent off, I kid you not.
I believe you but didn't see that one. This was a terrible advert for League one football and that's using the term football very very loosely. I found it hard to believe this was the same side I had been waxing lyrical about so far this season.
It’s been festering so I have to say it. I hate to have a go at players in this team and I’ve been holding back, but I’m sorry, Bali Mumba is a liability defensively. There was a classic example in the 1st half: Accrington cleared the ball to the half way line on our right: Wilson is drawn out to challenge & doesn’t make it. Where’s Mumba? Still ambling back from their penalty box. That’s not good enough: on the other side, Joe Edwards would have been sweating blood to get back there. If we’re 1-0 down with 15 to play, by all means bring him on to run at them. But don’t start him against teams that are going to have a go at us. We tightened up no end when Lonwijk came on and that, together with Randell’s passing, gave us the platform to win it
He is to Argyle what Trent Alexander-Arnold is to Liverpool: great to watch but 90% of what we concede comes down that side.
He's a bit of an enigma isn't he. On one hand he can be brilliant to watch when he is on it. On the other he is definately a liability when he either switches off or decides to get himself into trouble with officials. His booking today was pointless. If the Ref had decided to go to town on the pushing and shoving with more cards when Scarr got his red then Mumba who had been booked would have walked. It's the pointlessness of the bookings he gets that is so frustrating. He could be so much better than he is even when he is good.
Schumacher said that he had a word with the Referee at full time.....querying why he sent both players off...his answer was it was the "the letter of the law"....I couldn't do anything else...what's that when it's at home ?. He gave Argyle the free kick afterwards ?...should it not of been a dropped ball ?. Conneely got the first red... followed by Scarr.....the only sensible thing I could work out there was that maybe Scarr talked out of turn so went off as well....but no the Ref didn't say that to Schumacher after the match. With a straight red being a three match ban....Schumacher said he would think about appealing or not on Monday......Schumacher has a defender problem developing....Bolton is still unavailable and he has Gillesphey recovering still from a calf problem....the alternative is to bring one of his youngsters in for cover on the bench....this could also mean that Galloway will be playing every match.....which might not be a good idea. The general opinion was that it was a scrappy match....and maybe Accrington had the better of it until Argyle scored and then settled down.....I expect it is gratifying to win 3-0 when your not playing well.....Argyle have no mid-week match so have a full week to recover that will be pleasing for them.
Teams are making it scrappy in an attempt to stop us I think. Sheffield Wednesday fans were complaining how their side was set out and how they played at Home Park.
Just watched the video of Accrington's manager John Coleman talking about how they were robbed. 6 minutes 59 seconds of him sobbing about how the best team lost...how they didn't get a break...how they should have won....I nearly felt sorry for him....but I pulled myself together and decided that he was a bad LOSER.
