i can only think that this one was produced by god. it may be perfection. bacharach-david song, which helps.
you're correct, of course. i have the betty everett version. the 4-track ep i have by the swinging blue jeans contains 'don't make me over', which is definitely bacharach-david and may have contributed to my error.
Swinging Blue Jeans were first band I went to see at Brid Spa in April 1964. Should have been the Merseybeats, which I would have preferred, but I had tonsillitis. Clint Ballard wrote Game Of Love which Wayne Fontana did, I’m Alive for the Hollies. And this, one of the first songs as a 10 year old which got me interested in pop music.
my arrival on the planet was a bit late for me to catch any 60s bands live, but it's the decade where i do most of my archaeology. i do sometimes wonder whether my restrospective view of the whole era or specific bands/artists would have been different if i'd been following it all at the time. still, there are bands and artists i've sort of grown into over the decades. there are very many best-ofs in my collection, and jimmy james is among them.
