Just watched the Brighton highlights on BBC sport site. This may have already been discussed elsewhere, but... is it my imagination, or have most of our goals at home this season been scored at the Vic Road end? That's what it seems like to me, though it's all a been a bit of a (mostly disappointing) blur so far up here, so I'm prepared to be found completely wrong.
I seem to remember it that way too GG. I am not complaining though, as it means i get to see them lol. I was gutted that i never got to see Deeney's goal on tues as i was with H in the rookery, but i dont care where they are scored so long as we are scoring them!!
You can't win! I had a phase of sitting in the Upper Rous cos a mate liked it there (no accounting for taste). This was when you could pay cash on the gate. There was usually enough space to ignore your given seat number and sit at one end or the other, changing ends at 1/2 time. I actually found that up there near the SW corner was a great place to be when we scored. You got a great view of the goal, and also of the Rookery erupting!
Too right, we cannot win. I have decided that i would swap at h/t for a few games lately, it paid off before, but staying also paid off when i got SL's towel against pish. I remember sitting in the SW corner and loving it when we scored!! I would run up and down the row screaming and shouting. All good fun!!
Course, back in the old old days we could pretty well always change ends at half time- walk around along the terrace below the Shrodells stand, through the gate in the fence at half way, and find somewhere to stand in the Rookery or on the Vic Road. Ahh happy days!
ahaha. I like walking from the VR end to the rookery and watching the funny looks i get from the stewards. They look at me as if i am in an opposition shirt. Its nice to see you about btw GG. I hope all is well (as well as it can be)
How do you do that?? Walk out and round, or go along the Rous, or what?? Am i right in thinking the rous connects into the Rookery in the corner now? Mystified.
I go under the upper rous. Its all linked. You can get through the SW corner even though its a shell.
I seem to recall that this trend of goals mostly being scored at the Vic Road End started last season. Not sure of the stats, but I'm sure more were scored at that end rather than the Rookery. Slightly off topic, but I hate it when the opposition choose to swap ends so that we attack the Rookery in the first half rather than the second. Anyone else have irritations like this?
I hate that!! I like to spend the last 15-20 mins at the front of the VR end so i can speak to loach after and when they change ends like that i cannot do it
This season, last season, and i think you'll find, the season before that too! The Rookery End doesn't get to see many up close but we go mental when we do! lol
i hate it!! It really is irritating, and part from Brighton, i think the last couple of seasons we've always lost when we've started the wrong way around!
Yellowvoice and his junior hornets sit in the lower rous near the Vicarage Rd end and we're LOVIN IT! COYH's
Actually that was a supplementary question that I was going to ask but forgot. It does look to me via highlights/ match accounts that we do seem to be continually attacking the Rookery first half. I hate that too. Seems unnatural to me. Are we losing the toss continually or what? Which makes me think of a further question: in cricket the toss is recorded and announced. Does it happen in football? Pretty sure it doesn't. It would be interesting. If our captains were winning and choosing towards the Rookery 1st half it would be interesting to know why. Always assumed sides had an overwhelming desire to attck towards their own supporters 2nd half; the only other factors that might influence a decision I can think of are sun, wind or slope, and in our case the last one coincides with towards the rookery (I'm assuming attacking downhill is best. maybe it isn't. My own playing days are long gone, can't remember!)
I was always under the impression that given the choice we attack the Rookery second half as thats there my moving to the front comes from. I go down at the end of a match which would mean SL is my end of the pitch therefore we are attacking the Rookery.
