On one of the Newcastle Development Forums there is a rumour going round that the Strawberry Place land is back up for sale, not sure how true it is.
Does that mean we knock down the strawberry and utilize all that space for an extension? It would be interesting to know how they'd pull it off with their being a main road around it.
Think it’s about 8k more to complete the upper tier. We would be fine in a 60k stadium for a good few years.
I just can't see how that gets approved on the grounds of safety. not like they can dig under either as the metro station is down there. Only way I can see a tunnel working would be to have people walk over bridges into the stand once through turnstyles. There would have to be nobody walking on the through road. Would also require moving the club shop and Shearers bar I'd imagine. Chaos has a point too. There's a massive issue been caused by the student accommodation that's already been hoyed up around the Strawberry, surely they're going to have something to say regarding foundation works etc. Then there's the issue of the access road from the side of the Strawberry n all. I honestly don't think that land was ever considered for a Gallowgate extension. The original plan was for it to be a separate hotel and casino facility owned by the club.
no difference to the Tunnel that you walk under when going to your Leazes end seat no difference when you walk up past the main entrance as well vehicles drive up and down all day busses too
Just build over them annoying terraces and do the job on the East stand too......they don't need light
It's all something I'm really looking fwd to hearing news on...... It won't be an easy job ...loads of coin for a few seats
Other than the fact the road outside the gallowgate is the main artery road for high speed emergency vehicles for the RVI ? linking the West side of the city to the hospital
you need to extend back to extend higher. That's what we're talking about. The main issue with that is the road, which as I pointed out is the main artery road for vehicles needing to get to the hospital - that's where the major objections will come from. You can hardly have people enter a turnstyle in what is currently the Gallowgate car park in numbers and then have ambulances fleeing through it at 90mph. Not sure what the prosepect of a tunnel system is either due to the metro station and line?
