I wonder if part of the problem will be needing to find someone happy to work with the current coaching set up. Selles etc. They’ve only just joined, and along with the compensation for Ralph, if a new manager wants to bring in their own team, that could get really expensive.
Ended up in the pub with an Everton supporting mate and his Everton supporting cousins last night. After the standard piss taking and them all rolling about on the floor when I said a draw would’ve probably been a fair result based on the game I mentioned that Ralph is probably on thin ice and not got too long left if he doesn’t start getting results. They all were stunned and said he would walk into a much better club than us and we’d be mad to get rid. Said we weren’t in the bottom three, who could we attract and what did we expect being a minnow in the league. Interesting to hear different perspectives, but probably just highlights how little other people pay attention to us
Most modern managers don’t tend to have that level of power or sway. Especially the ones we would be targeting. I thought even Poch was only able to bring in 2 or 3 people. Granted we might be saying a new person can bring in no one
You don’t need to pay a lot of attention to us to note that that they had some points there though. Namely the minnow in the league, not in the bottom three (and rarely have been since he joined) and who could we attracted They may be slightly off regarding him walking into a “much better” club (would depend on their definition I guess)
There was a story about him already being lined up for Chelsea if/when potter doesn’t work out. There is apparently an enormous fee to pay to get him out of contract. He is also Portuguese so I expect if he goes to a non big 6 premier league club we all know exactly which one that will be
And it’s generally because most other fans know little nor care much about a “minnow” in their league. It’s all about perceptions of status & the above refers to any club which they consider is bigger than us. And that includes …. Actually easier to go the other way … Brentford, B’mouth, Fulham & Palace don’t. The rest do for historical, £, size reasons.
It’s the kind of thing casual observers say. Would they want him at Everton? Has there ever been a time Ralph was in danger of being poached?
Honestly they can have him. It will allow Saints to press the refresh button and move on. I think our ownership do not have their head in the sand, and are currently sourcing out our next coach., negotiating with the club who's manager we want. Hopefully I am right.
Been away from the forums for a few days but… I said I’d give Ralph the first 10 games of the season and felt we’d need at least three wins by that point. By that measure we need a win against Man City or West Ham, preferably both. I don’t see it at all. And with that in mind, I don’t mind if we let Ralph take the City game and then pull the trigger. We need to get some new ideas into the group and some fresh energy and it would also give the new manager five games (or four, if you let Ralph have West Ham and a new manager starts with Bournemouth) before the valuable WC break.
I don’t think he will go there. That said I would have said the same about Patricio, Neves, Moutinho, Guedes and Nunes.
