Ain't seen the tackle or the match but from everything I have seen we didn't play well and got exactly what we deserved regardless of the ref. Tbh we got lucky v Chelsea so even if it was harsh it ain't like we ain't had it in our favour. Last season most gooners refused to accept that both the penalty decision and the red card were correct and blamed the ref for their loss...seems like it's our turn even though the truth is that we didn’t deserve to win. My hope is thst Conte will look at the fact that we've conceded 7 goals in our last 3 games and will now accept that our formation has to change...he did that 6 years ago at Chelsea (coincidentally after a terrible performance and result away to Arsenal). He realised he did not have the players to play his then preferred system so changed so I hope he realises the same is true of us. We can not playwith two in midfield as we are regularly getting over rum. The desire and fight in the squad is clearly there but those qualities alone will not be enough
PNP, you know I have a lot of time for you, but come on man. This is insane. Victor Moses was correctly sent off for two blatant bookable offences in the 2017 FA Cup final, and Azpilicueta was incorrectly not sent off for DOGSO in the 2020 FA cup final (which balances out the Kovacic dismissal). If you look at the track record of all those other games he’s officiated, there is none that stand out as being overtly contentious or controversial. I’ve looked at his record with Man City and he’s officiated more top-6 bouts (he’s had quite a few of Man City-Liverpool and Man City-Man Utd), but City have slipped up in a few of them (e.g. losing to Wigan twice in the FA cup) which is their own fault. As with most of these things, you have to take them game by game, rather than looking at a list of the outcomes and deciding there’s a pattern of ‘corruption’.
Stats today: 65%-35% possession 22-7 shots 7-3 shots on target 5-2 corners Arsenal were dominant because they controlled midfield and possession Spurs played an attacking front three but did not play a counterattacking game - which is the tactic to employ if you concede numbers and therefore possession in midfield. I know Utd were at home but we beat them by getting at their back four and isolating defenders against pace. Arsenal still have some weaknesses defensively. Leicester had quite a lot of the ball - two in midfield overrun again- but got ruthlessly exposed when their defenders were isolated one on one against good players (Son obvs). I don’t know what Conte was thinking because it seems obvious that the tactics today were wrong.
I was thinking the same, look at the similar tackles the likes of Fabinho, Xhaka and McTominay etc have made which have not resulted in a red card.
You haven't looked at all 43 matches he's reffed for Arsenal and assessed them with this in mind. I doubt anybody has. There are a number of examples of him being biased towards Arsenal. That's why I called him Anthony "Arsenal" Taylor in the match thread OP. That's why there are pictures of him in Arsenal kits via photoshop. The idea that City have slipped up and Arsenal haven't doesn't sound very likely, does it? That Spurs have done it more than double Arsenal's rate also seems odd, don't you think? Reimagine the league table with those results in mind. It's nothing like reality. The Woolwich would win the league and City would be scrapping it out for 4th. Chelsea have lost twice as many games as you, having played one more.
Those 43 games span over 11 years. The first Arsenal game he refereed was in March 2011. We’ve also lost to Stoke, Spurs, Man City, Liverpool, Newcastle and Aston Villa. We’ve dropped points against Watford, Leicester, Brighton (several times), Sunderland (twice) and Norwich. I’m obviously not including draws to you lot, Man City, Chelsea or Man Utd in this. He’s also given us 6 red cards. What would be the point of him doing this if he has such a love-in for us? I can point to other referees where we have an appalling record with them in charge of our games. Does this mean they’re biased against us too?
Just rewatched the game on motd. What’s really worrying is how easy it seemed for the Arsenal players to go around Spurs players. Perisic especially I’ve noticed in numerous games now, just let’s players go past him. Also Lloris was poor for the second goal, he has a lot of good moments but also seems to make mistakes at crucial moments. Conte’s post game interview didn’t really inspire me much either. Or and that was never a red but I’m glad Emerson is unavailable for a few games now as he’s a terrible terrible player and not suited at all to what Spurs need right now
I think you are being unfair to richy and sons defensive abilities. Granted i haven't watched you guys enough and only contes chelsea but the wingers are running around too much. His deep 3 at the back when you guys get into shaoe leaves too much work for the wingers and cms to get about. The wingers especially, they have to counter, they have to track back, they have to double up on the wing and when not doubling up they have to get compact into the middle and help the cms. They end up knackered running all over the place and staying in shape. Agree about perisic. Hes dangerous and good in spurts but he is looking old and cannot handle up and down all the time
I rarely watch motd but there was nothing else on and it was first game on. Also wanted to see the Thiago Silva incident, how that wasn’t a red is a disgrace.
Bias does not mean guaranteed win. It would look a bit off if you won every game he reffed, wouldn't it? As for some refs being biased against you, why not? I'm 100% certain that there are some officials that Arsenal fans don't like.
Yes absolutely, there are several, but how do you determine whether that is because they are generally awful at their job (due to the low calibre of officiating in general) or because they have an intrinsic loathing for us? There are plenty of other fans who would moan about the same officials for the same reasons. Every club’s fans feel hard done by to some degree.
Surely not, they were full of praise for Paul Tierney after the last NLD at our place - especially their manager.
By watching other games and seeing if they're still ****. A lot of them are, though. If they end up with a record when you're better than City, it's probably bias.
