Gabbidon - We will be fearless

Defender admits QPR are showing too much respect

By Tom Watson. Last Updated: November 3, 2011 10:59am

Table-topping City have won their last three on the road in the Premier League but Gabbidon hopes entering the game with a more confident approach will benefit his side.

The defender believes the Loftus Road outfit will learn from their mistakes in the 3-1 defeat at Tottenham after claiming they were too respectful of their opponents.

"We showed them a bit too much respect in the first half and we'll learn from that," he told the club's official website.

    Believe

"I think we showed in the second half what we're about and we've got to approach the City game in a similar fashion.

"We can't be scared of these teams. We need to go out there and believe in ourselves a bit more.

"It's 11 versus 11 at the end of the day and we can't afford to give them too much respect.

"We'll just give it our best shot and see where it takes us on the day."

This is what you did not want to read today:
Meanwhile, Mancini said that David Silva's injury was not serious after the midfielder was forced to come off with a back problem in the 65th minute of Tuesday's match. "I don't think it's serious, he took a knock in the back," said the City boss. "In 60 hours we play QPR. I think he'll recover in that time."

When the camera went to him in the dugout he looked in a lot of pain, your wishes may come true.

I have to say no, watching my team has never been so exciting, then there is the huge investment in the acadamy on the horizon, i would not go back.
I know a lot of fans say they would not take a rich mans money but as we have proved money buys success and why should the same four clubs top the PL year on year and play in the CL and share the spoils while the rest of us look on in despair.

I wonder if it would be possible to install a perspex wall in front of the goal mouths, they might not notice. But by the end of this game we could have a goal difference that needs a mathematician to work out.

While I can understand that it must be wonderful for you guys to be taking the piss out of United after so many years in their shadow, but can you not see that people like the Sheik and Abramovich are ruining football by spending over the odds on anyone who can kick a ball?

Success used to be built of team spirit and a structured set up at a club. Top players used to move to lower divisions just to play for their boyhood team that they supported. Players played for their country for nothing and just for pride.

Even with a lovely stadium that you have, TV revenue and commercial income, you are a million miles away from being able to afford the players wage bill. This isn't right. Also it means that even the top clubs in Europe will struggle to compete and more and more clubs will die trying.

It also means that players that move to City are more or less finished if they are no longer required because who the hell can afford them?

How much fun will football be when there is just one league with 2 or 3 clubs left who can compete at that level of spending??

So while I can understand your excitement at the moment, I think you should take a look at what is happening in football as a whole, because it wont be around for long if things continue the way City are going.

Lone, while I agree in principle with everything you say, I find it very difficult to resent City in the way that I do Chelsea when it comes to cash. I think this is primarily due to the fanbase who have really stuck with them through the very tough years, and remain relatively plastic free.
The ridiculously rich clubs will always dominate the trophies, the rest of us will create our own targets which will means just as much to us, because we are really no longer in competition with the top 4-6. The biggest joy will be beating one of them, or even nicking a point....and we know what that feels like. No point getting wound up because it ain't gonna change. Though it might for us if Mittal suddenly thinks 'I fancy some of this'......in a way I hope he doesn't.

I'm afraid it's the way of the world, everyone knows that football is no longer a sport it's a buisness, and as long as there's money to be spent by billionairs they are going to spend it just for the kudos of winning trophies.I too don't resent City their day in the sun,but somewhere down the line football as we know it will surely die.It is a bleak future for most clubs, but true supporters will carry on supporting their teams until they go bust, regardless of whether they have won anything or not! Still in the words of Ian Holloway, every dog has it's day, let's just hope Saturday is woof day!!

I'm not saying I resent them at all, but I'm old enough to remember what football used to be about. There shouldn't be a top 4, it should be a balanced playing field like it used to be where anyone could be anyone on their day.

Opta Stats: Queens Park Rangers v Manchester City

Edin Dzeko has the best strike rate of any Premier League player this season

QPR are set for a difficult evening if these trends continue this Saturday

QPR and Man City met six times outside of the top flight in the league since they last played each other in the Premier League with Rangers winning three and Man City none.

Manchester City have scored four more goals than any previous team has managed after 10 games of a Premier League season (Arsenal netted 32 after 10 games in 2009/10).

Tottenham were the last team to score more than 36 after 10 top flight games, netting 37 at this stage in 1963/64.

Manchester City are unbeaten in 13 league games, their joint-best run in the Premier League.

The Citizens have also found the net in 16 consecutive league games, also a Premier League record for Roberto Mancini's side.

City have scored three more goals from outside the area (11) than QPR have managed in total (eight) this term.

Edin Dzeko has netted at a quicker rate than any other Premier League player this term, scoring every 55 minutes so far.

Man City have conceded a league-low one first-half goal this season.

QPR have won more fouls (144) than any other team in the Premier League this season.

The R's have only won one of their last nine games at Loftus Road in all competitions, drawing five and losing three.

    Lawro's predictions

QPR v Man City (1730 GMT)
Manchester City are having to deal with a quirk in the fixture list which means they have to follow every one of their Champions League games with an away trip in the Premier League.

You might say that they only have to play QPR, who Tottenham rolled over last week, but Rangers will be spoiling for a fight after having a week off. In Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips they have a couple of ex-City players who will be anxious to make a mark against their old club.

City will have to cope without the suspended Vincent Kompany at the back and there is a question mark over whether David Silva will play after suffering a back injury in midweek against Villarreal. Silva has been the catalyst for City recently and they might miss him, especially if QPR hold them up for the first 20 minutes or so.

This is a tougher game than it looks on paper but the thing about City is that they can be tough. They are good scrappers as well as having flair going forward. They will get chances at Loftus Road and I think they will end up taking the points too.

    Prediction: 0-2
