He is a little fortunate but he’s not bad and certainly better than the likes of Latifi. Fairly certain Gasly goes to Alpine. Potentially De Vries to Alpha Tauri. The intriguing thing is whether Honda are eyeing up buying Alpha Tauri as a works team. PS- Alfa Romeo (Sauber) have an announcement on Tuesday- widely expected to be a tie up with Audi!
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/formula...Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1664381199 Financial issues for W Series put the current season in jeopardy, never mind Season 4. I think the "Jamie Chadwick problem" is becoming a real hindrance to the series, even if it manages to continue. If she stays, then it confirms there's no chance of progression and would surely put young drivers off entering it (defeating the whole point of it), and if she goes elsewhere and is anything other than exceptional, it confirms the series doesn't have sufficient talent in it to judge anyone against. Whether it's F3 or Indy Lights, she really needs to be competing immediately. It's really hard to judge the talent of the field without any benchmarks, but at least the grid seems to be getting younger and have a few more upwardly mobile talents, rather than just consisting of older drivers who have been on the fringes of Motorsport for a decade. But without knowing actually how good they are against a solid benchmark, hard to say if any of them are anywhere near an F3 or F4 standard.
It does seem weird that she hasn't progressed. With the simulators that are around these days it does suggest she isn't competitive enough to get a drive in a more competitive formula. I am surprised that no team are taking the risk on her because I would have thought the positive publicity and the marketing opportunities would be huge. I think Stefano Domenicali said the other day he still thinks it will take another 5 years to have a woman come through the lower formulas to be at F1 level. He received lots of negative publicity but I do wonder if he was unfortunately, actually speaking the truth? I do think its a real pity that there haven't really been any women F1 drivers especially as the cars are less physically demanding that they have been historically. Hopefully Jamie can get a decent drive next year and prove she is up to more competitive formulas.
She's proven that she isn't good enough, and never will be. She has the same problem most women in motorsport have, they were all too old when they first tried it. You simply can't replicate that early learning.
There seems to be rumours doing the rounds about Red Bull and Aston breaching the 2021 budget caps! FIA are due to announce the figures before next race in Japan! In theory FIA could fine them or deduct points - not sure if that's points for last year or this year!!! IF Red Bull and or Aston breached the budget cap for 2021 then surely they should have constructors and drivers points as the car wouldn't have been as fast as it was without the extra cash! Then comes the potential advantage gained by spending more in 2021 on the 2022 cars...... I can see this being a can of worms as the FIA need to be seen to punish any breaches of the cost cap in a big way or teams will just 'pay the fine' and achieve performance thus defeating the cost cap intention. I don't think they can just say 'oh you went over by $5 million so we will fine you $5 million' as that's no punishment or deterrent at all. I wonder if the punishment should be for constructor and both drivers to be demoted 1 position in the championships or maybe cut their CFD and Wind tunnel time by 50%? The other problem is that by the time the finances are analysed it's over half way through the next season! So I'm not sure the FIA can retrospectively alter last years championship positions! What do you think the punishment should be for a breach of cost cap?
I wonder what Merc’s reaction will be if the cap breach is more than just ‘minor’ and is regarded as ’material’ Would the FIA have the balls to demote Max and Red Bull from last years Championship? Of course they wouldn’t as they wanted a new World Champion Singapore Grand Prix: Budget cap breach 'speculation' say Red Bull https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/63089233
This seems to be the potential penalties IF anyone has breached the cost cap limits. It's very open to interpretation as to what penalties are applied in each category of overspend! What it doesn't mention is if any points deduction are in the 2021 season or the 22 season!!
Called it way back when. Cheated to the title on 2 fronts, should be stripped of their results for 2021 and given $100m fine.
What's the betting that FIA will deduct points from this season to create a closer finish to the end of the season? I do think that a 5% breach should have a huge penalty applied to the year of the breach and a decent reduction in CFD and tunnel time for the following season. A financial penalty won't be a deterrent to the top teams as they can always get more money! The penalty need to, almost, be an on going one as IF they spent too much in 2021 that could have also effected their 22, 23 and maybe even 24 car. So to have a chance of levelling up a reduction in CFD and Tunnel time say over the following 3 seasons might be a good punishment - maybe equal to double the % over they went. If they go 10% over budget then 20% reduction in CFD and Tunnel time?
Horner is being very careful with his words. He keeps saying ' our submission was under the cap'! Not we didn't spend more than the cap! He then goes on to say 'it's down to interpretation of the rules'! He has previously said something about the cost cap applies to parts fitted to the cars! So maybe this was his way of saying that spares that have been constructed or purchased are not included in our submission as they were not fitted to the car!! I fear another FIA whitewash to save face as they can't be seen to alter the results of a previous season!!
The thing with this is, if it turns out that it was a significant amount over the cap and the punishment is a fine, they may as well scrap the budget caps since the rich teams can just soak up the fines.
Yeah exactly, it just becomes a cost of doing business. It also needs to effect both championships. Red Bull have never prioritised the Constructors Title, they'd absolutely consider it worthwhile to overspend and take a hit on that championship to deliver drivers titles. I'm sure this year it'll be "oh some rules need clarifying, definitely honest mistakes made, Red Bull have accepted a fine and will seek to do better in the future"
