The problem for me is most these players are coached week in week out by some of the best in football, then Southgate gets hold of them and they must think wtf are we doing, this isn't football as we know it.

it's aligned to brb going on holiday for a month and sucky taking the reigns <whistle>

Logically you need an intelligent manager who looks at his best players and says, "ok, how do these play at club level." Then implement a style that mimicks what they do week in week out.

These national managers don't have much time with them, they need for plays to slot in fast and stay fit with the best equipment available.

Southgate can't even make subs mid match without a panic.

Any preferences for the next manager once Southgate hopefully gets canned after the World Cup? Before it would be great but never happening.

    I'd go for Poch.

May as well do it now though.

Agree to do it now but FA are thick as **** so not a chance.

I said Poch, along with Low and Zidane. All three got pros and cons though.

Lowe would be the best bet of those, as he's done it with Germany, the other two are club managers up to this point.

Zidane doesn't speak English either, which really needs to be a prerequisite for this.

At this point though I'd say getting big Sam back is a better shout! We've **** all chance of making decent progress in the world cup under Southgate.

Maguire won’t get back in that team now outside of ****ty Europa games, barring injuries to better players. He’s been exposed by an actual decent manager. It’s Ole’s fault we have the chunky mong in our squad, I’d be fully behind letting him go for free if Ten Hag wants him out.

Only Englishman I can think of is Eddie Howe

His teams try to knock it about a bit

I thought he had got back in the side recently to my surprise, fook knows why I thought that, but yes I agree let him go and someone else pick up his wages.

Yeah, he played in a Europa league game and we lost. At home.

He won't be back in a hurry. The problem is that Varane is fragile so when he gets injured, Maguire is the stand in.

Ten Hag may well have decided that the likes of McTominay or Phil Jones are a better bet than Maguire by then though.

McTominay probably is a better bet tbh.

Kane plays centre forward. That's innovative.

Good job Ivan Toney was brought into the squad.

Two Manchester United players who can't get a game are both in the England starting eleven.

Two actual in form Manchester United players can't get in the England squad.

At what point does everyone else realise this bloke hasn't got a ****ing clue?

He has a lot of credit in the bank, getting to a s/f and then a final.

Reminds me of some of our fans when OGS got us to a final and finished 2nd in the league lol.

The WC is what will be the watershed for Southgate. His job is safe unless we have a monumental disaster in that.

Disappointing lack of booing of the German national anthem. Can’t even hear the chants of “ten German bombers”

Very similar parallels to Solskjaer, I mentioned it the other day.

As Solskjaer should have been given the elbow after the Europa League debacle, as it was patently obvious he didn't have the skills to go any further, so should Southgate after the similar debacle in the Euro's final.

Be a waste this world cup as we'll go backwards.

He can't really be sacked as he's done his job so far, but now would be a good opportunity to give an actual top manager the position for the world cup.

    Won't happen though, obviously.
