Maybe Reggie, but at least I don't have to stand and suffer the mind-numbing gatepost chitchat that others seem to crave. I get quite enough of that on here with you lot........
We've got one of those, only it's just "Bikeman" - he's a pedal pusher. He's a member of some cycling club or other, got a racing bike and out every day with the full lycra gear and racing helmet on. Very quiet bloke though, hardly speaks to anyone and keeps himself to himself - I quite like him.
A mate of mine from Tonyrefail is an elvis impersonator. He used to do paid gigs (not his job, just a sideline). Now he just does charity functions like old peoples homes. I'll ask him if he'll be attending.
I understand that Parkdean who own Trecco Bay are trying to muscle in on this traditional event and keep all the action on site in their new Showdome complex. I hope that's thrown out of the window. Although it's not everyone's cup of tea, the town gets great publicity and business from the annual event.
Took a friend's dog walkies to Porthcawl this morning. Apart from August Bank Holiday it was as busy as I've ever seen it. The glorious weather helped as well. The number of guys dressed as Elvis, most as old as Clingo, was amazing. Mrs BfB insisted of getting a photo of each and every one - and they were all happy to oblige. Lots of ladies dressed in 50/60's attire. The glorious weather helped. It was all quite spectacular and very quaint in its own way. Will probably be a little less so around 10.00pm tonight when the Elvis' are tanked up and want to fight each other. However it all creates a lot of interest in the town and is probably their most profitable weekend of the year. Hopefully there is not too much puke and pi$$ and worse on the parkrun route in the morning.
Grammar police here..... We have an issue with your plural of Elvis Surely its Elves or Elvises same as nutatches or nutachia or whatever
As an aside... Would a collective noun for the King be a choir of Elvises ? Or maybe a tremble of Elvises
Ther was an Elvis weekend in the twin near us where he spent his time off...apparently he served in Wiesbaden but went to Bad Neuheim for the girls. Was there on the Sunday. Lots dressed up but I have to say I've never heard such bad singing!!
I beg to differ Mr Cat. The correct grammar for the plural of any word ending in s is to stick an ' on the end. Grade 1 English O Level don't you know. However that was in 1971 and the correct use of language has deteriorated since then. For example someone wants to identify as neither male nor female is apparently "they", not he nor she. Okay if they don't want to be male or female then surely "it" is the correct term, for example, he, she or it. That would apparently be emotionally upsetting and impact on their human rights. "They" would only be the correct word if there was a group who didn't identify as male or female. Centuries of the English language blown out of the water by a few snowflakes.
but it isn't a word ending in S it's a name (singular) but I agree with the rest (and your sentiment)
An apostrophe signals ownership. Oldsparkey's dogs. The dogs of oldsparkey. You dont add the s, just an apostrophe if the word ends in s. Truss' bonkers government. The bonkers government of Truss. Often if a word ends in s you add es to make it plural. Bus, buses. Its an odd language English. Full of exceptions. Things do seem to be changing in what is common use though. The plural of roof used to be rooves. Aparently roofs is now acceptable. As a saturday teaser, an interesting one this. Can you give me a word that is masculine and plural, but if you add an s to it, it becomes feminine and singular?
