That wouldn't happen though, as people would stop going to Championship games and the league would be full of the B sides of bigger clubs.

    Euro joy for starlets

Adam Morgan came off the bench to fire a brace and help keep Liverpool's NextGen Series hopes alive in a 3-0 victory over Molde at Anfield on Thursday night.

The striker, introduced into the action at half-time, displayed great poise to find the back of the net after Michael Ngoo's pass had sent him one-on-one with the Norwegian's goalkeeper on 67 minutes.

Morgan then claimed a second on 90 minutes with a magnificent lobbed finish from 20 yards before Toni Silva stabbed home in stoppage time to secure the points.

It was just rewards for a dominant display from the Reds, in which they also rattled the woodwork on two occasions.

The win means Rodolfo Borrell's side now have a fighting chance of securing qualification from Group 2 of the NextGen Series with one game to go.

Having picked up a point from their two home games so far in the competition, Liverpool were well aware of the importance of securing three points in front of the Kop in their penultimate group stage fixture.

Last week's 2-0 defeat in Wolfsburg was harsh on the young Reds, but a victory over Molde - the team they dispatched so comprehensively by four goals in Norway - would keep alive Borrell's men's hopes of qualification ahead of the final match against Sporting Lisbon in Portugal next month.

Liverpool's NextGen Series hopes are in their own hands following a goalless draw between Wolfsburg and Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night.

The result means Rodolfo Borrell's side remain in second place on seven points, two ahead of the German outfit who face Molde in their final encounter of Group 2.

The Reds travel to Portugal to take on leaders Sporting for their last match knowing that a victory would guarantee their place in the knockout stage.

Going to be hard for us to progress Wolfsburg will beat Molde and Sporting beat us easily at Anfield.

Hope we can pull off a shock win.

I think the issue i kind of have is we've just not got a settled side together for this so it's kind of defeating the purpose of building youth if they never play and develop understandings together.

    Ahem...

Looking a bit better for us now...

Sporting have played 4 games and are on 10 points.

We have played 5 games and are on 7 points.

Wolfsburg have played 6 games and are on 6 points.

Molde have played 5 games and are on 4 points.

I've played against the Sporting side that are playing in this tournament. I went on a tour last year and stayed in their academy facilities - all I can say is I can see why they bring through so much talent. We are a good side and got smashed 7-0 by the Sporting U18s (so the U19s this year). Would not be surprised if they go all the way in this competition.

So you base your prediction on seeing one team in the competition and discount the others even though you have'nt seen any of them.

Great logic and vision there then lad.

The last sentence was based upon not only when I played against them, but their history of youth talent (Ronaldo, Nani, Figo, Boa Morte etc, spot the odd one out), their results so far this season (best defence, 2nd best attack only to Spurs), the fact they have the best academy facilities in Europe...

I haven't discounted the others, I've just said I think Sporting will do well? Spurs ourselves are doing well so far - top scorers and comfortably top of our group, but I don't think we will win it, simply because our academy has nowhere near the resources of other clubs in Europe.

Think you need to just chill a bit!

Edit: On a lighter note, was just reading through the Spurs intro bit and read this:

This continued focus on top level football has resulted in world class stars such as Ledley King, Sol Campbell and Peter Crouch progressing from the Academy.

World class stars - Peter Crouch

(sorry if it's been mentioned - long thread to look back through!)

I've chilled a little now and "calmed down"

Our academy is now turning out some extra talented youth.

    Watch this space.

Yes and he's already made an impression in the U18s, scoring 2 against Inter, 1 against PSV, 1 against Brighton and he's also scored goals for the Spurs XI which is like a reserve side.

He is definitely a great prospect.

You still in the Spurs youth set up then? Or is this from when you were younger?

    Huh?

Had trials when I was younger, but didn't get in.

Don't know what you mean by that though!
