The reversal of the national insurance rise is welcome but I wonder what all those who so fiercely voted for it originally now think. Talk about the blind leading the blind.

    “50 years of doing economics”

The best definition I’ve come across of an economist is someone who will understand with absolute clarity tomorrow why the prediction he made yesterday about today was wrong.

No windfall taxes on energy companies, tax cuts for the rich. remove the cap on bankers' bonuses.

    Trickle-down voodoo writ large.

She won’t call it that though, she’ll call it ‘supply side economics’. It’s called Zombie because it’s a dead idea that refuses to die in the minds of certain politicians.

It’s such complete bullshit, it has never worked except for making the rich richer. It doesn’t make sense. Why would you give rich person A something in the hope that they pass some of it to poorer person B? Just cut out the middle man and give it straight to person B, safe in the knowledge that rich person A will have found a way to get most of it by the end of the day anyway.

Of course they are not interested in the ‘trickle down’ bit anyway.

When the alternative is Truss’ “let’s hope for the best and ignore any negative forecast” approach, I’m a tad concerned. I don’t think they’re clueless. They just know what’s coming and are terrified to admit it.

Interesting that Biden spoke out against trickle-down in advance of meeting Truss in New York.

In a message on Twitter, Mr Biden said: “I am sick and tired of trickle-down economics. It has never worked".

I’d imagine at his age Sleepy Joe has other forms of trickle down to worry out.

He's getting his own back for being dumped in the 14th row at the Queen's funeral with an incontinence pad instead of a cushion

No one worried by Putins sabre rattling? He's getting desperate, calling up 300,000 reserves.

He's also holsibg referendums in areas Russia control, which will pretty obviously be rigged. If these areas then decide to become "Russian" does Ukraine retaking them at some stage count as an invasion of Russian soil (in Putins head) and allow him to use "all weapons available" as he has threatened?

Guys a fruitcake, but a very dangerous one

I don’t think he was making a reference to her or the U.K., but a similar resurgence of idiocy in the US.

If someone can give me a single example of where this approach didn’t widen the gap between rich and not just poor, but the all of the rest of us, and concentrate wealth in even fewer hands, I’d be delighted learn from it. Of course if the object of managing the economy isn’t to make the whole of society better off, it’s an irrelevant request.

What’s the point in worrying? Surely the question is in the event of use of a tactical nuclear weapon, how will NATO respond? I have no idea. I’m assuming that a wider nuclear attack would have to be met in kind and it’s bye bye everyone. But a tactical weapon detonated over the Black Sea, as I’ve seen mooted as a possibility? Do we do the same in an unpopulated bit of Siberia?

At the moment there seems to be a much more widespread and vocal opposition to the war, including from celebrities and people in positions of authority, from within Russia. Putin is even under threat from extreme nationalists because his handling of the whole thing has been so ****. Although it’s hardly a strategy, the best outcome would be removal of the nutter by the Russians themselves. The more reservists who get killed, the more public military reverses they suffer, the higher the chances. Just as long as it’s before the nuke/chemical/germ button is pushed.

We were hoping someone would take him out months ago, but he's shut himself off from any threats and has huge protection, so the odds on him being "offed" by his own is a far reach at the moment.

As you say, multiple casualties amongst the reservists that he calls up (these won't be battle ready troops for many months) will have a detrimental effect on the morale of the average Russian, and hopefully cause an ideological shift amongst the populace.

He's cornered, and in trouble, and likely to pull off something crazy if this goes on for too long
