Maguire still in the England squad despite being dropped by Man United. Southgate is a massive hypocrite.
Luke Shaw has been displaced by Malacia in the United line up. Maguire by Martinez. Yet Southgate still picks them both.
And Alexander-Arnold has put on a disasterclass in defence in every game this season and yet it in despite there being a very long list of right backs we could have picked
I used to get annoyed by this kind of thing from Southgate, but it's just what Southgate does. He sticks by the players that have done well by him and England and will keep recalling them despite club form.
He is the media darling unfortunately, part of the Liverpool/Klopp fawnathon. As you say, there are far better RBS than him.
This is one of the rare situations when I kind of empathise with Southgate, because of the lack of pre tournament games he can’t really afford to totally demolish the side. Maguire has generally been pretty good for England (****e for United though) and it is a tricky time to introduce a new CB set up at International level. Glad he has introduced Ivan Toney rather than reverting to Rashford mind.
Knowing Southgate's normal methods, he'll put Toney on for about 10 minutes, at the end of a game that we're losing, then never pick him again
I recently put a comment on one of the threads, saying that the Premier League clubs hadn’t asked the FA to continue with the “No replay” policy that was brought in as a result of Covid. It seems that the Premier League clubs are meeting today and it is expected that this will be on the agenda, alongside plans for altering the Carabou Cup. The reason being put forward is that they want to avoid fixture congestion, especially so when the European Champions League expands in 2024. I hope the EFL tell the FA to **** off, with the continued practice of no replays, and threaten not to enter next years FA Cup if the rules are continued just as a favour for 6 or so clubs.
Personally, I think replays should be scrapped this season and then reinstated next season. I just think the fixture pile up will be too great for replays this season due to the World Cup and the Queen's death. I am a fan of replays like you but I can't see how they'll fit in the schedule this season.
Most people know some of the details of the air crash that killed Emiliano Sala but the BBC have put up an article today which on it's own is so unbelievably shocking that I looked for more information. It is just an horrendous catalogue of dishonesty, sharp practice and greed by the man that arranged the flight and the pilot who died wasn't much better. If you know all the details already, I apologise for repeating them but I feel a genuine anger about a guy who effectively killed Sala and only got 18 months imprisonment. A lot of the info in these articles is repeated but each one also has some new details. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-62594529 https://www.irishtimes.com/world/eu...or-to-footballer-emiliano-salas-fatal-flight/ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-59062626
