Just keep your political thoughts to this thread instead of muddying several different threads with your opinions on politics. This is what it's here for. Politics is a subject most on here, seemingly, would prefer to avoid. God Save the King
You see, I disagree with this. I think the vast majority of people in this country believe in fairness (and are not racist, homophobic, sexist, transphobic, or any of the other things that people get accused of regularly). But fairness doesn't equate to people being stripped of property, or even everyone being paid the same, regardless of the job they do. It should be, and for the most part is, a case of the more you put in, the more you get out- that's fairness (although I find it's wrong that people like nurses, carers etc are so poorly paid as they do more for society). The taxation system, whereby the more you earn, the more you pay, goes some way to redressing the balance. The problem is, there is no space for nuanced debate anymore (not just on here, in the world in general), everything has to be black or white, right or wrong, and that is rarely the case, with anything. The British Empire is an excellent exampls. There is a school of thought that it was evil and only did damage. Its true, many terrible things were done in the name of Empire. But many good things were also done- many countries around the world reached a certain level of economic development as a result of the Empire. The Empire left behind a tradition of democratic government, where there had been none before. What’s wrong with considering all aspects of a subject before making a conclusion about it? Most people are moderates and want to occupy the centre ground. But when criticised for not having an entrenched view on a particular subject, they'll be pushed more and more towards the opposite point of view.

She's desperately trying to look solemn and statesmanlike ... ... this is our Prime Minister ffs, can't even act like one
After the crash , they said they had to pay and continue to pay the worlds top bonuses to attract the worlds top banker/ traders. Thank god we had the worlds best at that time - they only bankrupted the country - we’d have been in the sh*t if we’d had the bad ones !
Could be doing with a new thread now. How about 'you look really strange, love (how I learned to stop worrying and got on the Truss Bus)'?
How does the rise in threshhold for stamp duty help the housing market? This is a genuine question as i'm not sure I grasp it. I understand that it makes buying a house (slightly) cheaper which I'm guessing allows more people to buy houses again. But does that demand for houses not just drive the prices up which will result in the savings in stamp being cancelled out anyway? Do we know how much the cost is for abolishing the 45% tax on top earners is? It feels like there were better ways to spend that money than on people who earn so much. We've also scrapped a 6% corporation tax rise and refused to apply any kind of windfall tax to energy companies and instead we will borrow the money for the energy crisis which will cost £60bn for the next 6 months... What do we do in 6 months time?
I reckon your guess is that decreasing stamp duty may make it cheaper to buy a house, but as long as a shortage of houses prices will increase. Our cigar smoking boozy health secretary, is just fiddling around also, as long as there is a shortage of doctors, nurses and hospital beds... the NHS is in a crisis. Its not even clever to make these points, its so fcuking obvious.
