Listening to all the historic wording over these last few days, it is clear that they don't really apply to modern day. Maybe we shouldn't take this stuff too literally and accept it as tradition? Some would want all tradition updated I suppose. I think the stuff about the Scottish Church needs updating, so maybe there is a case for it in some cases.
Yeah, I think that works for most of us. Perhaps the youngest of recruits might need it explaining that the King is a cipher for country.
And remove the bit about God....I was an atheist when I joined up, but still had to make the oath. Had it on all my papers that I was N/A when it came to religion. Was still made to attend church every Sunday as a recruit, but refused to sing, pray or recite all the religous bollocks that they do in church. Got dragged aside by my drill sergeant after the first service (bearing in mind, I'd not long turned 16) and got an absolute earful for not taking part. I calmly explained that I was a non-believer....guess what he did.....sent me to jail for the rest of the day
I thought we had ready made trade deals after Brexit...now honest Liz, says we have no trade deal in the pipeline with USA, in either the short or medium time range. Close ally, and huge market...how the **** did that happen. Surely we haven't been duped or lied too
Also we are also considering joining the new European club of nations... For closer cooperation with Europe? From the team that brought us Brexit
Well that is reassuring. A quick victory for Trussism when it happens. She is moderating some of her idol's excesses. At least it's not oven ready.
BBC News - UK considers joining new European nations club https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62967084 But to be honest...not really sure
My genuine first thought as I read this early was, isn't this very similar to football, where people have criticised the format of international football, so they introduced the Nations League. As the EU is not the power house it once was, not just due to Brexit, but other European countries are grumbling about leaving (as I have mentioned before, I am seeing more 'Frexit' signs up in Paris), is this a new format, being proposed to try and make everyone one happy family again. The names are even similar!
We should call it the Union of Europe. It’s not like Brexit has stopped people crying about immigration.
