Heard some discussions about the royal standard on the radio, so just been reading up on it.
There are 4 quarters, 2 quarters show 3 lions passant guardant for England, a quarter with a single lion rampant for Scotland and a quarter with a harp for Northern Ireland.

So, as with the Union Flag, no representation for Wales in the royal standard.

Interestingly, in Scotland the royal standard has 2 quarters of lion rampant and 1 quarter of 3 lions passant guardant.

Who would win? A lion or a fire breathing dragon?

Wales is not represented in the Royal Standard, as its special position as a Principality was recognised by the creation of the Prince of Wales long before the incorporation of the quarterings for Scotland and Ireland in the Royal Arms.

Clingo, you know your history!!! It appears we are indeed special.

Personally I'm happy to keep our flag unique :emoticon-0142-happy

Oh and I got the above from the Royal website.

    Don't disagree Aber :emoticon-0148-yes:

I think we'd all prefer a Welsh born Prince of Wales, I was just quoting the official line on why there is no Welsh representation on the Royal standard.

In saying this, William is at least someone who spent time living in Wales, so it's a very small step in the right direction.

Ahem - excuse me for popping in - I am no historian but I think you will find that there IS Welsh bloodline in todays royal family.
Richard 3rd king of England was toppled by Henry 7th at the battle of Bosworth. Henry himself and a large number of his army were Welsh (with a smattering of French).
Richard and the Plantagenet bloodline were replaced by the Tudors - whose roots were Welsh.
Ok further down the line you had the likes of childless Elisabeth 1st appointing James as king of Scotland and England - and then a few hundred years later Victoria married Albert - the Hanoverian (German) so the Welsh blood became diluted, but it’s still there. Even Englands brief flirtation with being a republic under Cromwell only interrupted but didn’t break the bloodline.
As with all those royals they are all inbred and related to each other. They aren’t descended from Owain Glyndwr, but I’m sure there’s plenty of Welsh DNA still knocking around in there.
Posted for historical not political purposes
