Over the last 5 or 6 years.... Phillips, Lewie Coyle, Jack Clarke, Shackleton, Cresswell, Peacock-Farrell Malik Wilks Archie Gray I think they are all local lads and they are all playing decent level. I've probably forgotten a few too no doubt. Then you have the likes of Edmondson, Gotts playing lower and lads like Clark Odour who came from Africa but was brought through from a very young age when his family moved over.
Even back in Revie's day we cherry picked top talent from other areas. Bremner, Lorimer & Gray came dowm from Scotland all aged 15 I think. Kalvin coming through the ranks from age 14 and being a local boy is unusual, especially as given his age he was close to not being scouted at all and probably wouldn't have become a professional footballer if he'd been missed for another year or two. The only others local lads I can think of in recent times are Charlie Taylor, Alex Mowatt and Jamie Shackleton. Charlie Cresswell might be the next. Plenty of others have come through our academy but fall into the non local category and were picked up later. Tom Lees Sam Byram Peacock-Farrell To name just a few. Edit; Forgot Lewis Cook who's from York and came through all the junior teams. Oh and Jack Clarke from York also. Seems we've actually done rather well.
They've all been deemed fit for our squad at some point. Lewis Cook was a bit further back mate but yeah him too and he's played for England. Alex Mowatt, Charlie Taylor, Fabian Delph, Johnny Howson etc were all a bit earlier and all local lads.
I guess it depends on the manager. George Graham was more conservative about blooding the youngsters whereas O’Leary through them all in when he took over.
