Basically what Bournemouth did to us yesterday is what we were doing to teams for the past 4or 5 seasons
pack the defence and limit the shots to long range - worked for us plenty hence why we are still in the premier league
not pretty as we all know but there you go

Yeah and it's terrible to watch and difficult to create any sustaibed progression going down that route.

Botman is behind Burn because the latter has better leadership qualities.

I’ve heard before that Eddie is fearful of going with bigger players. He likes to play it safe. Burn, a utility defender more often on Brightons bench, is our first choice CB with £35m spent on Botman. I don’t ****ing understand that at all.

I think it will be Burn and Botman soon. Schar yesterday turned into Shelvey, **** knows how many needless long balls he hit with only 1 that I recall coming off. More worrying still was that Trippier turned into prime Jack Colback on the right refusing to play forward balls or even attempt to run with the ball.

I will however add, Miggy sat wayyyyy too narrow most the game which didn't help Trippier.

this was the most frustrating for me yesterday
many times he had space and time to drive forward or into the box
but he just stopped and passed the ball back or sideways, it was like he was on a length of string and he had reached the end

I honestly think that injury has ****ed him up far more than what we know, he didn't even hit the free kicks, kept leaving them for Target to drift them out wide and for a gk.

Not panicking it I am concerned about the results.

We have to accept that a draw at home against Bournemouth is a terrible result. Anyone saying otherwise is just being naive.

Drawing 5/7 says to me that Howe is playing to safe.

Even Target didn't have the best of games
all in all pretty poor all round

just move on and put it down as a point gained as we would have lost this at the beginning of last season

I don't give a toss what the level is, there are fundamentals that Howe is getting wrong every week at the moment.

    1) Playing a narrow 4-3-3 with "inverted wingers" who don't know how to be inverted wingers.
    2) Not getting full backs forward because Bruno isn't a real DM.
    3) Leaving a massive gap between his CF and his midfield as there's no central pivot.
    4) Due to (1), attacks constantly stop momentum because brainless wingers are always checking back on to their stronger foot.
    5) Leaving Isak 2 v 1 as there's no midfield support so where are goals coming from?
    6) He wants to control the ball against 9 man defences but we're not playing triangles or through the lines; again, the inverted wingers stay too wide all the time, because the full backs aren't pushing up to squeeze the play.

It is exactly what it looks like - someone trying to copy Man City's formation without having any of the same quality of player or the real depth of knowing how to play that way. And as I've said elsewhere, whoever thought Murphy, Almiron, Fraser, Wood and Longstaff were good enough to propel us up the table needs their ****ing head looked at. Whether that's Howe, Staveley, Ashworth, etc. That said, we were bidding for those replacements, so maybe it was the scouting being **** (which wouldn't surprise me). We could have beaten Leeds to Aaronsen and Fulham to Palinha to mention just two players. They cost £40m between them, slightly more than we spent on a reserve CB.....

I'd drop burn he's just big lump that's passes remind me of mine playing with a 1990s water logged ball.

I get the Dan Burn love in, but we can't play with Botman and him because they're both made of lead.

Schar and Botman worked very well i don't understand the change, but I guess howe is trying to keep players happy which will ultimately cost him his job.

Yep, he puts far too much on harmony and not enough on quality. Burn was a Brighton sub. He should not be our "leader" or first choice CB. Schar/Botman should be given time. And we can see from their goal how much Burn's leadership worked. Where was the offside play or marking? Piss poor goal.

Very well spotted .. schar stepped up to play them offside but Burn didn't. Ultimately players get singled out and it's also worth noting the entire goal threat came when Newcastle spazzed a pass in a fwd area and tripper had committed fwd.

From schars position he had no option to eliminate the threat other than step up it was 2 vs one , but unfortunately the other two didn't step up and they were in .

So “sustaibed progression” is that what we should be aiming for?

The time for worrying is 1st Feb if we have not signed any attack minded players.

Till then Howe needs to be a bit more brave.

There's nothing really to worry about, but things to be concerned about for sure. Relegation isn't beyond the realms of possibility If a side is incapable of scoring goals and winning games.

The reality is Newcastle will most likely get their so called best 11 on the pitch 2 3 times this season if ever, so the ****e people think won't play will play alot.

Where's the goals going to come from? Wilson Isak and max could all be injured next week.

I'm hearing max is still going to be injured along with Wilson... Both are always injured for long periods of time and isak could be injured at any time just as likley as one comes back into the side

I'm simply asking where the goals will come from to keep newcastle up? Is tripper going to score 30 free kicks?

To be fair, Bournemouth at home is maybe the first game of the season that hasn't gone as I expected, in terms of the result.

Possibly Palace too (where we were totally robbed of a winner), but even then I half expected a draw and the win was perhaps more being 'hopeful'.

    - Forest at home WON (expected, good result)
    - Brighton away DREW (expected, decent result)
    - Man City at home DREW (better than I expected)
    - Wolves away DREW (expected, decent result)
    - Liverpool away LOST (expected, although the nature of defeat was infuriating)
    - Palace at home DREW (half expected, although we were clearly robbed of a winner)
    - Bournemouth at home DREW (expected a win)

All in all, we are maybe a point behind my expectations (+2 if we'd beaten Bournemouth, -1 if we'd lost to Man City). Being hopeful would have added 2 more for a win vs Palace.

    It's not too bad.
