The Cheltenham Festival starts 6 months today. Cor blimey how time flies. It only seems like 6 months since the last Cheltenham Festival...
Quite like one at Uttoxeter later today. Buttsbury Lady (5.17 Uttoxeter) - the forum's favourite trainer brings back this mare after an absence of 16 months. The old girl is from one of my fave equine families as she traces back to the wonderful Close Harmony (and therefore is related to the likes of Heather Royal, Mill Green and the legendary Barbers Shop). Buttsbury Lady won a Bumper, back in '20, but to date is 0/5 over hurdles. On her most recent run though was a creditable runner-up (form that has held up as both the winner and 3rd home have won since) and this gives hope that the daughter of Great Pretender could prove a fair bit better than a 105 rated performer. Obviously, fitness has to be taken on trust but Lieutenant Henderson's brilliant brain and magic hands usually have no problem overcoming such a handicap. Very interesting one, methinks. Good luck all.
Uttoxeter 13,50 Gentleman Valley 13/2 e/w five places with sky, others four places Second run after WS
I did see that i also ruled it out on the strength of the track too as its not the easiest track good or soft ! Brave choice paid off well done
You love that second run after WS system don’t you. Well done. He looked a really tricky character in the preliminaries and I bet it’s not long until we see an R in the form.
Yes, I like to follow horses when they have their second race after WS, but it is not a dogma for me either. We have commented once before that most of the time it doesn't work. Months ago I read that you had to take into account, more than the second race after the WS, the time that had passed since the intervention. I don't know where I read it, but it said that the effect (if it happens) is after 6-8 weeks, that's why it's rare that in the first race you notice improvement because most of the time they run before that time. When I saw the problems he had before the start... I agree with you that the R will appear sooner rather than later, but yesterday he won well.
