It’s true, the weirdest derby in English football is called off because there is no other way of getting from Croydon to Brighton except by train, apparently.

When we played Liverpool on Boxing Day the club laid on free coaches for members of the official supporters club ... which take up the majority of away tickets anyway as many are season ticket holders and they tend to get first dibs ... quite rare for away tickets to go on general sale these days given that 'members' are given the option after season ticket holders ...

So easy enough for the club to control all of this ... if they want to ..

That game was cancelled two weeks ago so it wasn't like they didn't have any time to organise something.

Going to the Toon match instead.

Hopefully we'll have all stopped mourning by then.

pay attention to todays itinerary FOR YOUR QUEEN, her Majesty Elizabeth the 2nd as she continues her journey to her final place of rest

Especially them ****ing ungrateful cretins amongst us

    ****s

The Queen's coffin will continue to lie at rest in St Giles' Cathedral. Officials say a queuing system will be in place for members of the public wishing to pay their respects.

At 17:00, the Queen's coffin will then be moved from St Giles' Cathedral to Edinburgh airport. Members of the public will be able to pay their respects as the hearse drives along the route.

The coffin will then travel by plane to RAF Northolt at 18:00. The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, will accompany her, and the coffin is expected to arrive in London shortly before 19:00.

The coffin will then be moved to Buckingham Palace, where it will be met by King Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort, as well as other members of the Royal Family.

Never thought of myself as a royalist but must admit the proceedings of the last few days have really brought home to me how important it is that the history and traditions that have shaped the nation and the people in it, continue. Those people saying that it would be just the same if we got rid of them, as we would still have the palaces etc are missing the point that we would lose that link to our past. The interplay of a democratic government, the monarchy and the church, which has been so important in our development as a nation, and was so clear when they proclaimed the accession of Charles to the throne, would be lost and we would lose a lot of the ceremonial stuff as well. Its all very well saying that we would still have all that but it becomes like a Theme Park, when you are only doing it to entertain the tourists.

Proclaiming the new king in each of the countries that make up the United Kingdom was not actually necessary. They could have just sent us all an email or put it on gov.uk. but doing it the way it had been done for hundreds of years, was what made these ceremonies special and what continues to draw the crowds. It was interesting to notice how many overseas visitors were taking part in the ceremonies, coffin viewings etc, some even having come over just for it.

So I am actually feeling quite moved by what is happening, and in particular what it means to a large number of our citizens, and I am keen to see it continue.

Take it no one's heard of the A23 that goes straight from Croydon to Brighton then? The one most daytrippers take and is less than an hour's drive?

    Agreed.

Watched a bit of the stuff going on in Scotland, talking about things happening, the same way it's always been done, in places that are hundreds of years old.

The crown laid on the coffin is the exact same item that was used by Mary Queen of Scots. Years and years of history right there, it's insane.

    Good post mate ...

Despite enjoying poking the anti-royals a wee bit, I'm not a staunch Royalist by any means and do think that the more peripheral ones should not be automatically entitled to wealth and privilege provided 'by the state / people'... although I get far more vexed thinking about how the wealthy use their money and position in public life and in governing the country tbf... not convinced the Royals have had much of a direct impact on me and mine.

Personally I think having a monarchy in this country and, in particular, a Queen that was unarguably one of the most recognizable / famous people on the planet, has put us in an enviable position on the world map, both in terms of general interest and in bringing visitors to our shores.

There will be an outpouring of grief throughout the world when Liz is finally put to rest on Monday... not because a huge swathe of the global population has been duped and misled by state (or alien) propaganda, but because there is genuine admiration and affection for her - someone who dedicated her long life to being the monarch when circumstances laid it at her door. It won't go down well with the anti-Royals, but the odd protester so far, compared to thousands queuing overnight in London last night and the millions around the world that will be watching on Monday, is a fair reflection of her popularity and a testament to her life and meaning to people.

All of us judge people ... if we have some interaction with them then perhaps we have some basis ... if it is merely from observation, less so ... but we will have an opinion nonetheless. Mine, for what it is worth is that 'she was alright' ... conducted herself with politeness, dignity and decorum throughout her life, even during some difficult times ... and even had a bit of a twinkle in her eye. I was sad to hear the news of her passing as she has been a fixture during my lifetime and was just a year older than my old girl - who I still miss very much to this day.

So I'll embrace her send off with a couple of beers and a nice glass of wine ... God bless yer ma'am <cheers>

Much rather these old traditions remain with their aura of absolute class n bam bam than new traditions created by the embarrassing TikTok and shankin generation…fackin scumbags.

Good to see Charles go over to all the kids who have been waiting for him in NI, even if it keeps his security on their toes.
