I don't think any of us know how long this is going to go on for. This didn't start in 2022 either but 8 years ago. Right now there's a bigger motivation for Russia to keep going than for them to retreat, and that is geopolitical. That driver will continue to keep them going whether they're winning or losing...for now. I can see it ending sooner if they're offered an 'out'. That might be through some sort of compromise offered diplomatically but I don't see Ukrainians agreeing to anything short of a full withdrawal so that seems unlikely. On the other hand if Putin dies then the rest of the Russian cabal may fall into line so that may bring it to an end.
If the reversal continues and Ukraine makes it all the way to Crimea, what happens then? That's when things start to get extra scary for Putin. He has some really big decisions to make at that point.
China has probably been hoping things between Russia and US get worse so that they could batter each other and let China quietly take Taiwan without the US getting involved.
It's another reason why the U.S. and western countries have to persist. They're worried if Russia succeeds then China is watching. Is China supporting Russia or will they, militarily in terms of firepower?
it's a done deal boys. Taiwan is china https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_General_Assembly_Resolution_2758
China has been smart to sit this one out. No doubt they're cheering Putin on in their security meetings but they've been smart to sit this one out and let Russia and US deplete their weapon stockpiles in a proxy war.
This bit... Taiwan is part of China, although it is important to note, not the People's Republic of China.[8] Since Resolution 2758 was said to be "deliberately ambiguous" and did not use the word 'Taiwan', Ban Ki-moon's interpretation to this effect came under fire from the American media I love U.N. Resolutions. Not worth the paper they're printed on unless the U.S. can't come up with an excuse of ambiguity to ignore them Same **** with the 60 odd U.N. Resolutions in favour of the Palestinians lol
Yeah if all States were treated equally and all resolutions backed up with force, Israel would be home to a lot more rubble by now. Some states are equaller than others in the UN. The UN is overall a good thing, just not always very effective. Good for policing weak states and preventing them doing wrong. Not good for policing powerful states or states being protected by powerful states.
Get rid of the permanent member status and make it a free for all.... but we could be getting into another monarchy style debate again
Do they have more to lose than us? Practical elimination of the state and bulk of the population either way. Both lose everything.
I got fk all too lose....they got a luxurious lifestyle..u really think they would end that.......as I said its a game all sides play so they can use its populations fear to milk the fk out of us.......truth probably is they never have had the intention to use these things but the chances of a catastrophic cock up could certainly bring on a devastating future. Was reading the close shaves the usa have had and ots alarming....and that's just them who admitted to some errors which came close to setting of a chain of events only lucifer himself could enjoy(ain't religious but it sounds good)
Yeh it's like a paradox or is it a catch 22, fck knows. Can't get rid of the veto because the ppl holding the veto will veto it.
bet the yanks are pissed off that they insisted on China being included as they had a weird China complex .
Said before this invasion that Russia's military was a joke and feel vindicated with the recent developments. Definition of a paper tiger, saw on Reddit last week confirmed reports Russia now buying ammunition from North Korea. Still ranked so highly on Global Firepower too, been saying that site was a load of bollocks for years and feel vindication #2
