We get ****ed in this country, Roly's quite right, between paying for royals to have holidays and then get this........ £3 a month is enough to pay for water for an entire village in Africa, yet my water bill for me, my mrs and the bairn could pay to water 15 entire African villages and to make matters worse it pisses down here all year round.
Whether the decision to cancel games was the right decision or wrong decision, I believe it was made for the right reasons. Football is the national game and The Queen was a Patron of the Football Association. They were also in the unenviable position of not being able to see what other sports chose to do, as many other sporting events were waiting to see what football did and how the public responded to it. At the end of the day we live in a constitutional monarchy. The world has changed so much in the last 70 years and nobody has had the chance to test the nations response to previously accepted protocols when a monarch dies during that time. The death of The Queen is an extremely significant event for the country, regardless of individual beliefs about the rights or wrongs of a monarchy. She was highly respected even amongst many who would not describe themselves as royalist. The FA have erred on the side of caution. With football fans' history of not always showing themselves in the best light that may not be a bad decision, however frustrating it is for the respectful majority.
She would have wanted us to celebrate her life. What better way to do so than have all fans in stadiums singing the national anthem and thinking of her.
They didn't cancel the football when Henry V died. And if it was a case of worrying about the fans response they could have just cancelled the Liverpool and Chelsea games.
True. They could still have done this of course but they could have had every club signing the national anthem at the beginning of the game. It would have been magical
These ceremonies going on at the moment to proclaim the new king are really interesting. Gives a real insight into how the current monarchy came about after the Civil War, and also the Union of Scotland and England.
We seem to be wasting a lot of time and money on new seals for Scotland if they are just going to vote for independence again.
Apparently the funeral day will be a bank holiday so everyone will get the Monday off. I wonder if everyone who hates the monarchy will refuse that day off and instead work? also.. what about the poor scousers (who are scouse NOT English)? Will they take that extra day off work or not?….. oh wait.
