Blimey , stop the world , really is poor , tour of britain binned , all that training and expectation just scrubbed as ‘ mark of respect ‘ , works both ways that ........the pomp and deference gig is on. for ten days , some weirdos in back rooms will decide when and where we are permitted to do stuff . These same creeps usually cover up for misdeeds by the firms more wayward members , anything from drunk driving to *****philia. This is really modern life ??
I haven't seen you here for quite a while. Why don't you p*** off to back where you have been and show some respect to a very fine lady, stop thinking about yourself and learn to think about others.
You are way out of line.... This is about Elizabeth and she was a great lady who brought joy to many and worked tirelessly for our country...............
Sorry, I think he’s entitled to his opinion, yorkie, and you may not agree with him, but IMHO, he’s not “way out of line”.
I felt it was out of line with how other posters were feeling........I loved the lady and was feeling pretty sad myself
He can have his opinions but it is completely unacceptable to voice them here at this time. Why not be considerate to other people's feelings and save them for another time.
I respect your opinion RB as we should all do in a country that respect free speech but on reflection the vitriolic way you put it accross has given cause to offend and has lessened the impact of your views.
Agreed. Not being a fan of the monarchy, I had thought to duck out of this argument, not wishing to offend others. But my dislike is of the institution rather than the person - and I don't think that it really takes too much to show respect over the death of an elderly lady. On a completely different note - I see that midweek matches will still be going ahead, but next weekend's fixtures are in doubt due to the funeral on the following Monday. A bit of a backlog building up...
Think Saturday will be ok as well unless they see us as too close to London ? Think any games there will be off to give organisers time to prepare.
I think this is fair, and yorkie knows that I respect him totally. I've ducked this similarly to BB, but perhaps slightly differently in content. I'm not afraid to post my views, and it's not her constitutional position that is stopping me. Happy to discuss football on this thread, and friends with yorkie, rudebwoy and all of you.
Hi Mark, I think it should be noted that he posted it here, where is has some relevance, i.e. how the '10 days' affects football. If he had posted it on Fez's tribute thread, that would be different IMHO Not wishing for a moment to curtail you responding to this, but after that, let's keep this thread to beating the Royals - as in Reading.
There were at least eleven posts before my first post on subjects like paganism and apistavism which had nothing to do with the game against Reading. I wonder if you could enlighten me as to what relevance these subjects have to the match because I was chastised for posting a comment irrelevant to the game but the posters commenting about these rather obscure subjects were not reminded that they had no relevance to the game.
Beyond any doubt the thread had wandered way off topic, but then as events unfolded it made it redundant. In my opinion free speech is something we should cherish, but comes with being sensitive to how your remarks might be hurtful to someone else. Your response to the original post that kicked things off was totally reasonable in the light of how the poster expressed himself. There is a good level of self control from all of our regular posters, and the ill considered words came from someone who is not an active member. Let us continue with well mannered comment, especially when dealing with sensitive issues.
I was definitely not singling you out, Mark, honest. If that is the impression, I apologise. And I wasn’t saying that we should stick to the match, threads do wander, and I don’t mind that. It was a plea of unity about something, I didn’t mean to appear high-handed or however I’ve mistakenly come across.
Tenuous links and all that... I am a STH and I had given up my seat to go to a Hand Fasting. Legitimate questions follow and the answers are a courtesy, tied back into my personal association with Reading, and here we are. And that's without mentioning the Simod of Cup Final in 1988 that know quite a few fellow Hornets went to. I'm not sure that you were chastised, and I agree with your original opinion #28
