You’re right - none of us know the ins and outs.

But I’m saying what should have happened and we should have had more turnover in this squad by now, and avoided the huge overhaul that is required next year.

Comes back to same problem of shifting people on. Unfortunately haven’t been able to move on players that we’ve needed to and been a slight issue last few years.

Ox, keita, Phillips, origi, Karius. Even going to ojo, Shaqiri, Grujic who had to send on multiple loans before losing them cheaply

theres a couple different issues in that pile though.

gross uselessness on loan when given chances (karius, oj))
Massive wages over and above the going rate (origi and ox and shaqiri)
    nobody wants them (phillips)
    injury nightmares (keita)

you are right though, we have to move them BEFORE we buy therefore if they hang round like a bad small we won't absorb another wage.

this is the crux of the matter. the wage bill has to remain at a level. So people who won't move block others coming in but decisions on new contracts have the be right for that contract length.

other clubs pile up players then go try to solve it however they can and don't seem to care of the cost but we have to.

Klopp's apology after last night's fiasco was the first indication I've seen that he might be ready to admit we have a problem. It's been a long time coming if you ask me. The die was cast after the united match, but we've been bloody terrible since the first minute against Fulham

Let us be less discreet and say most of the current team needs benching. I was only throwing a few names out there, but in fact only one player really stands out and that's Elliott. Diaz came on last night with an attitude of **** this **** but he can't do it all on his own. Thiago of course ONLY IF he can stay fit

Obviously we can't bench everyone. But CAN bench the bigger names and the worst offenders to make a point.

Bench Salah and no one is going to slack off.

He pretty much said we've got a problem, he said we need to re-invent ourselves!

Managers shouldn't ever admit its not good enough or players are ****.

Klopps defended his team but behind closed doors I'd say quite stern words have been going in all season

They can't run. There were some reactions at points during games but the same issues are there so while the team had a meeting and all that and 9-0 v Bournemouth it's still well.off it's own standards.

You can only hope that this was the 4-1 Spurs moment (which was the end of Lovren) that Klopp finally needed even though it should have been obvious sooner.

    Time will tell ...

Oh I completely agree. But again, this is the failing over the club.

We're a club that supposedly needs to sell to buy ... so surely our selling needs to be on point.

It's a sh*tshow of a situation how we've managed to let this squad age and stagnate. We should have been strengthening from a position each year.

    Jota
    Tsimikas
    Elliott
    Konate
    Diaz
    Nunez

Things don't stand still, the work to improve is there. The decay is fast than the purchasing. Players in every position needed badly have arrived but its hasn't been fast enough to outpace the fall off of the squad.

We have bought some excellent players as you have listed but yes, we needed more. Especially in midfield.

You can pinpoint exactly when things tailed off and that's the season when we won the CL (off the back of spending big on VVD, Allison, Fab etc). Since then, we just haven't been aggressive enough. Too much loyalty to players and now we're seeing the consequences ...

we need but we don't have the cash. not allowed to run up debt and have to pay for Kirkby and anfield road end. Chesela spend nothing excpet on sacking managers so can afford a massive waste of cash every second season it seems. Utd spend nothing on anything (according to neville) and can afford wanton waste of cash on players.

Lets just think about utd as of today

    how many CBs?

    Bailly - loaned to marseille
    lindeloff massive flop.
varane - takes both of the above slot at RCB.
    Jones - still hanging round
    maguire - 85 mil and 200k a week disaster
    martinez

I'm up to 6 there. They've got one away just on loan and another sat doing nothing collecting wages but they can still spend on martinez...

    Full backs?
    Telles flop
    wan bissake flop
dalot - bit of a nightmare start but seems the new mans choice so far
    Shaw dropped, useless
malacia the new buy depsite haivng 2 lbs aready, none sold
    williams - another **** one
    tuanzebe the forgotten one
    fernandez another one.

like.... there's not carefulk management of squad here. buy everyone and anyone and eventually they go.

We are talking 120mil of our clubs funds gone on projects other oil dopers just fund elsewhere that our club is not even allowed consider to borrow for.

spurs: got a **** tonne of cheap refinancing of their massive debt due to stadium so have just thrown cash about for conte, they know they have to suck it up and hope.

We are literally seeing the club say we have ox, keita and we cant sell them so they must stay and play, not ok they can be loaned for half their wage or whatever, not just stick them on the **** off list like juve did with artur.

we then re-sign milner up cos we can't depend on these guys, klopps done that cos he knows full well he can't.

Other clubs the second ox went down v palace in preseason and was diagnosed with months out would have said absorb his wage he is out next may and buy his replacement now. We don't allow that cos we don't allow the wage to go out of set level nor allow borrowing. the cash flow is strict.

You feeling ok? Speaking a lot of sense for a change :bandit:

Agree though. It’s the way the club is, just need to get used to it. No matter what we do/think, fsg have their model and are sticking to it. Atm it’s worked because of great management by klopp and those around. Can that go on? Maybe not, especially with another club Newcastle soon to become the new city.

Do we want to be like city chelsea United Newcastle, or do we want to keep some soul of the club and maybe not constantly chsllenge?

In the end theres going to be several oil dopers and cash wasters i the top now 7. we have to start considering it a top 7.

The CL rules with highest position in coefficients getting an extra slot may be all that keeps us going.

Newcastle dumped 100 mil and 150mil into the transfer market net in past two windows. they are coming.

Very much a matter of when. Give any club unlimited money and they’ll eventually challenge for top honours. Only thing that can stop them is poor management.

    or wwiii

the difference between clubs long term will be management as we will see boom and bust buying and mistakes made left and right chasing.

the start we have had is all the most annyoing as the smaller sides have 1 game a week and are already fitter so we've thrown 6 points down the pan v everton palace and fulham that are bottom half points we need and we've given utd a 3 point head start as a direct rival.

wolves are a bootm half team. we have to beat them, its unacceptable to throw more of the absolutely vital 60 points we can take a season v bottom half.
