It was a poor attempt at humour by me which failed.

It was Pugh! Pugh! Barney McGrew! (as in the Pugh or Pew twins). I spelled it Pew, but when I think about it Pugh is probably right.

I think I was taking more of a liberty splitting Barney McGrew into Barney & Mulgrew for the sake of the original joke

 

As I was completely oblivious to the reference I feel I think I the authority to confirm it is ‘Pugh Pugh’.
