The new cabinet by school Comprehensive 5 Grammar 3 Private 23 Representing everyday people. I know there are exceptions but this takes the piss. Waiting for the usual suspects to say it doesn’t matter.
Not everyone with wealth started off wealthy. Go after the Made In Chelsea mob, by all means. Don't make it a waste of time for individuals to even bother trying to make their lives better though.
So over 100k a year personal income and people can’t start paying a little more of a % than someone on 25k to help their neighbours? Over 150k more again and upwards. Do you think you have a better life when you go into town and see people in ruins getting dented tins while others do m and s tea ? Things have got imbalanced don’t you think ? But aye the made in Chelsea mob and the people who pay for children to go to high cost public schools to get them in the Tory cabinet and stay in the ruling class and the people who donate to the Tories / USA parties to maintain wealth and power and shape policy are the real danger
Tough read this. Not celebrating being British when we do this to other humans because they have a different birthplace https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/rwanda-flight-self-harm-suicide-b2158661.html?amp Shame on you who back this inhumane and ultimately pointless policy.
She’s cool. North east folk should relate to this https://www.instagram.com/reel/CiKmrNeIOZi/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
There's a mentality in the Conservative party that's quite sad, they no longer pretend to care for anyone but themselves and their friends. I don't know if the Lib Dems or Labour still do but I hope so.
I'm glad that some kind of price freeze has been put on energy bills, but the average has still nearly doubled in the last 18 months which makes me think that a lot of poorer people will still be struggling despite this. Hopefully there is a plan to target some support at those on the poverty line in addition to this. I've no problem with the government borrowing the money to do something good for the people, but I would be interested in the rationale in not creating a windfall tax - if the energy companies were in any danger of going out of business, then I'd understand, but it seems like the big 5 are recording record profits, meaning they're taking advantage of this situation.
Definitely taking advantage. They were making a profit at the beginning of the year. Maybe I don’t understand the way it works, but surely you can pass on a raw material price increase and just keep the profit level the same.? Seems to me that if cost goes up 10 , then instead of adding on 10 to us , they add on 20 , which is 10 for cost and 10 extra profit for them , without actually supplying us with any more , without giving us twice the cables and infrastructure etc
It sounds like they're negotiating a long term plan. Hitting them with a windfall tax or not might be leverage.
Let's see what happens. I can't imagine the energy companies want to commit to any long term plans though, given the turbulent situation in the world, but hopefully it's the case. I've no problem with these companies still operating as successful businesses and taking a profit, but they need to be warned that now is not the time to exploit us.
