I believe the squad we have now is playing as well as any group we have had in the last 6/7 seasons, not bad for a bunch of hangers on, 'dross' and a manager who buries his head in the sand. <laugh>

That depends; there have been spells under the previous 2 managers that were far better than this. There have also been spells under the previous 2 managers that have been a lot worse than this. It is certainly the best set of results for NP in his tenure here, but it's a small subset of games; any manager can have a "streaky" run; doing it consistently is the key and the challenge for NP; otherwise, he will fall into the same category of "streaky runs".

should you be the eventual top 3 maybe 4 then throughout the season you have been pretty consistent maybe a nice run of 4 5 6 + wins a a poor run or 2 when it has been a couple losses and draws and the odd win ... analysis of thesetimes always have a reason one of the main ones is the status of the quality of fixtures ... whether a team or 2 is in a purple patch etc
Take our current run been pretty much "average" teams / teams lost form /at bottom of table ... so would expect to be gaining 1.5+ pts per game ave .... = 12pts + actual is 14pts

THE NEXT 6 games will define ... 10 pts and we are doing well above average ........

Absolutely shocking on the money invested and lost.

Only once in the top ten.

Anybody that thinks otherwise has their heads in the sand :emoticon-0136-giggl:emoticon-0136-giggl:emoticon-0136-giggl

As someone who has spend a huge amount of time as an adult fan supporting a side in the 3rd tier of English football, harping back to the glory days of Alan Dicks and our brief flirtation with the top flight, those figures make positive reading.
All those successive seasons in the SECOND tier for a change.
Yes there have been frustrations and disappointments on the way, but I believe that finally we have a platform to spring forward from - rather than being seen to be ‘visitors’ in this league before returning to where we belong.
Everyone, from Cotts, LJ, John Pemberton - even Mark Ashton - and now Nige and Jason - have played their part on this journey.
It’s a good time to be a Bristol City fan.

But they never had the funds thrown at them like LJ did big money and nothing to show for it.
Nige on the other hand has his hands tied behind his back and is now producing the best football I have seen since the SC double team.

Honestly I just want Bristol City to do as well as possible.
I don’t care how much money was spent - that’s SLs concern.
The money spent in the 1980s to try and stay in the league almost saw us cease to exist - yet Alan Dicks is hailed as a god.
Do you have a league table with league place achieved vs money spent?
If we do manage to get to the Prem, would it be negated if we spend too much money?

Nige has finally found form and I’m enjoying it - but he started from a solid Championship platform.

That money is only big money in the context of our club, not the Championship for ffs. And a lot of those players are the experience and backbone of this current side. Money is a side argument the haters are using now. I do t recall anyone complaining at the time, yet everyone knows better now…. Some right hypocrites on here

Reality..... we sold the family silver and tried to buy back a replacement that was less valuable ... thats where the money came from! you could say .... "]But they never had the funds thrown at them like LJ did big money" if we had NOT sold anybody, we were actually doing as stated "recycling" ending up with a profit and a different player. It cost us momentum and a place in the top 6 maybe even promo!

'We're not a selling club' - Lee Johnson says Bristol City have no plans to sell their best players
However, the head coach admits that there 'does need to be outgoings' at Ashton Gate
    https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/were-not-selling-club-lee-1074923

    * Addressing the issue of selling any Bristol City stars, Johnson summed up the club's strategy by saying that: "This club isn't a selling club, necessarily.
*"We'll sell players at the right time if we feel it's right to kick the club on. You saw that with Jonathan Kodjia, which I thought was a very good price to get for him.
*"That money's allowed us to buy a team and the infrastructure behind that, such as the training ground hopefully, the young players coming through and the coaches we've brought in.
*"It's all about getting it right for the football club. We'll give everything to keep doing the things that are right for the football club as a whole," he explained.

LJ new what was going on, selling players for a profit and reinvesting, not a crime but selling the family silver was of no consequence to him, it was in his contract, he signed right up for it and was involved along side Ashton, not a crime again but it led to a £38.4m debt, FFP threats further down the line.

How much of the £38m debt went on the non-player side of the club, I wonder? The High Performance Centre wouldn’t have been cheap and must have been club funded in some capacity. So, the club, under LJ had to sell some family silver, but some of that was for the longer term good of the club through things like the HPC. Things the current squad are benefiting from.

Two things your comment here -That money is only big money in the context of our club, not the Championship for ffs We not talking about the rest of the championship we are talking Bristol City FC and the facts are the LJ has had the most money to spend under SL fact. The positions that we finished in under LJ come the end as Wiz pointed out were not great-granted we have stayed in the championship.
However SL clearly felt he should have done better.

Second items the HPC was funded by SL and has no effect on the football club in terms of players.SL did say that at the time.

You're missing the point RR....Each season it cost more to compete in the championship. You do need enough quality just to stay there.. Taking into account the majority of the clubs have spent time in the Prem gaining financial clout.. In the past we managed the odd season but yoyo'd in and out.. LJ created stability and competed well in it for 4 seasons.......more than any manager since AD.. That's become a platform for NP to move the club forward...lets hope he does :emoticon-0103-cool:

Can SL do that without incurring FFP attention? I didn't think clubs could have their owners spend money on any area of the club except players and not come under FFP scrutiny.

    And of course there is another way to look at things.....sometimes things work out for a reason;
Had LJ not been successful keeping us in the championship, I could not see that NP would have ever been interested in the appointment.
Had LJ been more successful and we had won promotion to the Prem, I don't think we would have wanted him!!
Ahhhhhh now you love him!! :emoticon-0105-wink:
