I'm guessing we won't get the £400 in our electricity accounts I'd the energy prices are frozen at current levels? Obviously, I'd prefer the energy prices to be frozen than get the £400, just wondering. Thing is, some additional payments attached to that £400 have already been paid out.
A reduction in unit price.is a reduction forever in theory. 400 smackers on a once of basis is gone in a heartbeat. The only way forward here is to slash and burn all dependency on oil and gas. Thst means build. Nuclear, wind and hydro. Household solar. Most houses can have 300 days a year hot water from solar on their own. Get on with it. The eu linking the price of renewable to price of gas was moronic and it still affects us. It was done to incentives renewable when they were costly and now its inflating their profits when they should be cheapest. Our bills now are still affect despite being out so what was the point of brexit eh? The eu are glacially slow and will have a very very hard winter.
We're an Island FFS we should be relying on tidal and wave power by now.Barrage across Mersey with road on top,not rocket science. Severn, second biggest rise and fall of tide in the world but the tree huggers put a stop to power generation. Last human standing can take solice from the fact the birds and fish are ok!
Well I'd not drive on it if you stuck a wobbly road cross the Merseyside but the sea lanes should be marked and the rest covered in wind Off shore wind is fairly good and then you have to store energy. It's not rocket science to dam up some valleys and pump water with excess wind power and run hydro when the wind is less. All things are possible but they cost money and there's far more profit in fake ferries and dodgy ppe etc. Right now if the gas terminals were full and the oil terminals were full there shouldnt actually be a crisis at all.
Ofgem reported that it would be cheaper to buy the top five energy suppliers than supply credits to support people through difficult times ahead. They don't need to buy five, they only need to buy one and undercut the others forcing their hands! They won't do it though, too many brown envelopes to lose!
Nationalising things doesn’t guarantee anything. 1, you don’t get same quality of people to run things as generally don’t pay as well as private. 2. if it’s not run for profit, it can’t use those profits to improve performance. 3. Look at things current nationalised like nhs, bbc, hardly high performing. 4, pay. Public sector don’t get very good if any pay rises. Most big private companies are giving at least some sort of bonus/pay rise at the moment, compare to the stagnation of wages in public sector. 5. The government aren’t very good at running the country despite the fact it’s their man job … what makes anyone thing they’d be good at running business as well
Who says he can't be profit making or it must be run by government? There's plenty of scope, the top five are creaming it in!!!
A state company is not run by government. Its run by ceos and board's etc. The difference is its there to be strategic in public interest and not just be a profit centre for private shareholders. The reality is that neither way is perfect. Yes national state bodies can be rife with permanent staff who can't be fired and under perform but equally private companies can be absolutely shambolic in providing actual service.
Built in monopoly and safety net. No reason to innovate or be profitable. Can't fail. Most things should be private... But some things are worth being a drain on the economy because they're worth more than money.
Depends how it's actually run and the country culture. The unions of the 1970s and 80s and breaking those has left this split between people's art tidies to state bodies Fundamentally we have a state for a reason. If we had no reason we'd all live like lunatics in the USA who think their patch of ground is an independent nation. We come together for safety, resources and health and education. Privatise the police? Privatise the nhs? They want to Privatise water? Privatise energy? The fundamentals should be controlled by the state
I think I agree with what you're saying there. None of those things should be for-profit. Take where I work, we bring in well over $1million in revenue a day. Not privy to how much of that is pure profit (a lot is)... Clearly a private hospital (when there is no public one available) is a hugely profitable venture. The only time we ran a negative is when COVID shut down a bunch of elective surgeries. Clearly, I don't support private medicine though because that money being given to the rich hospital owners is coming out of the poor. Many who don't get medical care because they can't afford it. Heck, I make above average wage, and I don't always seek medical help when I need it because it costs so much... Part of why hospitals are so profitable too though is that, at least in SC, you can't just build a new hospital to compete. You can't even add a new bed without State approval... So as an existing hospital you have very little competition and can veto any plans for a rival or new hospital being created. We veto our across town rival expanding several times a year... And they veto us. It's like a cartel, we can't compete we just have to agree to split profits. We would never agree to a new competing hospital built on our turf. BTW There are some idiots over here who actually do want to privatise the police, as ludicrous as that sounds.
Doesn’t look good for the Queen. Under medical supervision after doctors became concerned for her health. All her children travelling to Balmoral… sounds to me like may not be long left and it’s final goodbyes.
There can be only one Elizabeth in power at a time. Liz Truss probably poisoned one of the babies being fed to QEII.
who knows but thems the breaks. should have retired 5 or 10 years ago and let the suitcase grabber take over. but people got their party in the summer and will get their party now and the BBC I'd say are gleefully rubbing hands as they get the black suits out and get ready to go full bore on this.
Not a fan of the monarchy, but shudder at the thought of the crown being passed from QEII to KCIII. Charles has not been a lucky name in the past and our Charlie doesn't have the common sense to stay in the shadows like Liz did. The only positive is the inevitable KC and the sunshine band jokes that are bound to arise.
my only issue is with the BBC and the rather vampiric way they will be all over this. Charles has suitcases full of cash to fall back on. i'm not worried about his short reign.
How long before the first commemorative plates are released? And all the other money making ploys that some folk will milk from this? I bet someone already designed plates for the occasion some years ago.
Death of Liz takes the spotlight off the other **** who went to see her yesterday, allong with Boris. Enough to put anyone over
