Always love it when BT sport start to advertise the Gooners Thursday night football. it’s like the icing on the cake of the champions league win
Awful performance but saved by Richy, couple of great headers. Our passing for most of the game was some of the worst I’ve seen. Son is also just dreadfully out of form, trying to play him into it is doing the team no favours either.
Richarlison is so much better than I thought. It's good we rescued him from a poor Everton side. No offence intended.
Marseille fans kicking off in the away end Be nice if we played a Ligue 1 team where the club or the fans didn't turn into complete bellends for a change...
That was a largely dull game. I thought the passing was off throughout and we looked a bit flat. Marseille are a good team on a good run and we contained them well but without creating that much ourselves. Once they went down to 10 and we threw another attacker on the chances came and Richy was able to take them, and I’m delighted for him. The big worry now apart from fixture congestion is that Sonny is well out of form. Conte has a dilemma - does he pick Richy against City, who is in good form, or Sonny, who has the hex over Pep. Either way with more games coming thick and fast I’m sure there will be a balance. Nobody will be short of gametime. It was dull though and we needed to do better in terms of accuracy and speed of passing but credit the team for managing the game well and hardly giving them a sniff, game management has hardly been our strongest point over the years and some experienced heads on the pitch and the dugout will hopefully continue to help. Ultimately we were very solid and won with our two best moments of quality, which is ultimately what tournament football is all about. I do think that we need to temper ourselves a bit - this is not the team Poch had at his peak that could legitimately go toe to toe with anyone in Europe, it’s still a work in progress and Conte’s record in Europe does not match his domestic success. But we’re laying the foundations.
Credit to Richarlison. He came to the club knowing on paper he is not immediately in the starting XI, but he has fronted up in the PL (two assists) and today he has got past the scoring hurdle.
Agree 100% and previously we could easily have lost this 1-0 so credit to the team for the change in mentality
Thanks for the link, it was superior to the first one (sorry Spurf) so twas a treat to see those two goals. Cheers!
Citeh is the last chance for Son to claim starting XI rights for the near future. Either he starts scoring, or he puts in a team performance of the kind he did last season in that fixture.
I can't believe there were people who doubted what a great addition Richarlison would be! The keeper should have done better on the first header, powerful as it was. But the second was about as good a header as I've ever seen. This was exactly the kind of match Spurs would have lost in the past. While you could say they could have lost today, it's fair to say Conte has got the team behaving more like winners, and that's not a matter of luck. While the substitutions were better today, they're my biggest concern ATM. It seemed to me that Spurs had assembled an almost complete reserve 11 in order to keep from burning out the starters. But most of the first 11 have played nearly every minute and look tired. Only the Perisic-Sessegnon rotation has been well managed, I think. While I agree Richarlison has played well enough to have earned a place, the player he should have displaced on form is Son, not Kulusevski. On the other hand, Conte has shown repeatedly that he knows what he's doing, so who am I to doubt him?
Think thats a bit harsh. Southampton was an excellent performance ... second half v Wolves was very good, Fulham was excellent, forest was very good. We average 16-18 chances per game under JM and Nuno it was 9 or 10. We are unbeaten in 13...lost 1 in the last 18. Think people are being impatient and harsh. I refused to pay to watch us under JM and didn't watch us live on tv unless I had nothing else to do. We were boring and imho I don't think we are now. Not a dg by the way
Just got back and I'm a little soggy. Safe to say that the summer is over. First, the positives. We won, we kept a clean sheet, Richarlison got off the mark and we didn't get too many cards. No apparent injuries either and it was good to see Tanganga and Doherty get some minutes. Next, the negatives. Virtually everything else. Awful performance and we were outplayed by 10 men at times. Grinding out results so far this season and not putting together much in the way of passing. Son was poor again, but so was virtually everyone else. He and Kane need to stop being greedy. Finally, the officials. Dogshit. No more Slovenian referees, please. Fell for every dive, ignored all of the timewasting and looked well out of his depth. He got the Conference final last season, somehow. Must've won it in a raffle. Highlight for me? Their fat physio, who ran on to treat the keeper and looked like he needed some treatment himself afterwards!
It’s definitely much better than Jose or Nuno but Conte has always been a results over performances kind of manager, which is fine as I’m desperate to see Spurs win any sort of trophy just to end the drought. There have been good performances under Conte but there have also been some sort underwhelming ones. Like I said earlier, he’s the best manager Spurs have had in a long time but I just sometimes wish the team dominated possession and games more rather than the counter attacking style.
Not a good performance by any stretch of the imagination but it was worth the entrance fee just to be able to boo Guendouzi in person.
First highlight in the 40th minute tells it's own story. That Mbemba tackle is just moronic, isn't it? Their manager must be fuming.
