    Happy days

Priti himmler has resigned rather than be replaced in a fit of pique.

The tower is too good for that raging fascist.

Horrible woman, but she's already done her damage with the anti-protest laws. Will they ever be repealed, or is it just one step towards fascism that will just linger like the hate speech laws, the internet monitoring and anti BDSM porn laws, etc?

Seems like every so often a step is made towards police state and it's never backed out of, even with successive governments, it's just accepted as normal.

    On topics discussed today.

If Labour had somehow a 100 seat majority they would not repeal them. That's how politics works.

They'll be very happy to apply that law to their own critics in future

Indeed. Why voluntarily give up power.

Politicians never vote for pay cuts as a form of finance reform either.

It is not a coincidence that
Mary Elizabeth Truss, as Conservative Norfolk-bae. is an anagram for My naive tarok serves both Lucifer, or Satan's blaze

OK... I wasted too much time on that and didn't do very well... <laugh>

But I had already said that parties negate the supposed checks and what's the media got to do with enforcing parliamentary scrutiny?

Parliament is primarily a legislative body to allow tories to give money to their friends.

The checks are ways to earns committee expenses on the side while party lines ensure they are about as useful as a comb to greez.

Finally his own party ousting him has nowt to do with parliament and its function. Its to do with sharks smelling chum in the water.

alienating your own party is a fairly effective check since normally they perceive their leader to be an electoral liability . The committees are where the real detailed scrutiny both of legislation and ministerial performance takes place and often party loyalty makes no difference .

So legislative activity... like I said?

As for ministerial performance I've never seen a minister dismissed for gross incompetence yet. Its not really got the teeth of a senate oversight committee in the USA and over there that's just another partisan party politicking group.

What they should or could be doing and that they do are two very different things.

Party politics firmly sees to that.

We now see the full scope of the party policking in play.

Its not even inter party politics but tory party internal wrangling.

We now have the situation where Truss has come in and rewarded all her most loyal people or those who jumped out of her way and then endorsed her.

the deputy prime minister is apparently another bumbling idiot who has been defined as someone her constituents (who vote for her) as someone they've not let run the local fete.

All of the sunak supports are now out so like boris the sole criteria for a job is loyalty not competence

She's just a cheese eating Boris in a dress. They kicked out Boris and let his clone in instead. Ridiculous choice in leadership change.

I wonder when we'll see someone even vaguely competent in No.10. We used to laugh at other countries with their comedy leaders, now we're as big a joke ourselves.

I can't see this changing as Truss is talking 2024 for an election next which is actually a year earlier than needed.

Clearly no risks being taken going earlier due to inflation crisis.

In 2024 what will change in labour? Nothing. What will change for lib dems? nothing.

Literally all she needs to is do nothing and if she's not caught out being massively corrupt, lying or just plain massively stupid ( the boris issues) then i'd see an easy election win.

the red tops will simply shout coalition with SNP about labour and the gammon will be all over the tories again.

With the SNP dominating scotland labour simply cannot amass enough seats to threaten the tory grip IMO.

2024 is a long time away politically. More than enough time for Truss to have controversies of her own to bog her down.

Long enough for a massive recession to hit.

Long enough for Ebola '23 to ravage the country.

Long enough to be dragged into war with Russia or China.

Truss wants to introduce more taxes to the energy companies...

Yeah, I totally see that working. They definitely won't pass the cost on and it certainly won't make the entire situation much worse <laugh>
