There has been speculation about whether Nico is going to stay long term in Mercedes with fellow driver Michael Schumacher (2012 +).
I have just come across something completely the polar opposite, apparently Nico may possibly be moving to Ferrari, he has been frustrated at times this season with the performance of the MGP-W02, but does that mean he could really bail out?

Recent reports reveal that Nico Rosberg of Mercedes GP is eyeing a move to the Ferrari squad for the next 2012 Formula 1 season, although Rosberg’s contract with his current team extends into 2012.

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa’s recent collision with Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes has triggered an array of confusion and discontent.

McLaren boss Whitmarsh is reported to have said that the 30-year-old Brazilian, who still has not come to terms with the penalty that was imposed on him, is feeling immense pressure within his team at the moment.

Rosberg’s contract with Mercedes GP extends into 2012, and the team is willing to honour its commitment, however it is entirely up to Rosberg whether he wishes to stay with the team or not.

Looking at the other of the spectrum, Ferrari’s Felipe Massa also has a contract with the Maranello-based team for another year i.e. 2012. However, in the world of Formula 1 where anything is expected to happen, Massa should be worried.

Rosberg’s contract with the Mercedes team allows him to terminate the latter at his will at any point whenever he wants, giving him free will to leave the outfit if he wishes to. Sources suggest that the 26-year-old is considering a shift to Ferrari after he felt that the race strategy used by the team at the recently held Indian Grand Prix was biased towards the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

At the same time, Luca di Montezemolo who is the president of the Ferrari squad is quite disappointed and dissatisfied with Massa after his return from India. His collision with Hamilton during the race which inflicted him with a drive-through penalty by the race stewards and later on his retirement from the race and an overall floppy race are all factors that might have provoked the Maranello-based team to consider Rosberg in place of Massa.

However, nothing is certain of yet. The reports can only be substantiated when official news gets released documenting Rosberg’s move to Ferrari or any of the team’s bosses makes an official announcement validating the new contract.

When asked about his future at Mercedes next year, Rosberg said, “I don’t want to say anything about it.”

He further said, “We are having discussions about a long-term cooperation.”

    Thanks for reading guys. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Why would he want to go to Ferrari then? If he feels the team was biased towards Schumacher, then what does that make Ferrari's favouring of Alonso?? I think Rosberg is best sticking with Mercedes, after all, Schumacher isn't going to be around for ever.

i think if he went to ferrari, at least he would know the team is biased towards alonso. i think mercedes try to claim that the drivers are equal, but then schumi gets help despite not doing as well as rosberg

Yeah good point, I have no opinion on this by the way as I found this article on a website, just wanted everybody's opinion on here. I think Schumacher is doing just as well as Nico at the moment, he was setting faster lap times throughout the Indian GP, the strategy may have also helped.
But I do not doubt that Michael himself was putting in an effort.

True, but what would be the point in going to Ferrari if he already knew this. With Alonso signed up until 2016 or whenever, it would be pretty pointless.

I do not think Rosberg would get treated unequally at Ferrari; look at Korea when Massa was infront of Alonso and going slower, if Ferrari were favouring Alonso they would of switched them.

Depends on which gives him the best car...
That is the problem, Ferrari haven't exactly had brilliant cars for the past 3 years and 2012 could be the same.
Mercedes could have a race winning car in 2012 and Nico can beat Schumacher while challenging Alonso is going to be hard while the Spaniard is at Ferrari.

I hope you'll take this the way I intend it EMSC…

Posting someone else's article - whether in part or in full - without crediting the source; is called plagiarism. And although such practice is not actually illegal in the UK; it is,
to say the least, rather disrespectful. Indeed, this was the reason I did not respond to your article. Signing off with "Thanks for reading guys", gives an even greater suggestion that it was your own work, and I question the ethics of doing so deliberately.
    :emoticon-0149-no:

However, due to someone else's questioning of the thinking behind the words appearing under your name in your article, it has prompted you to declare the truth behind the words.
    :emoticon-0148-yes:
Ah well, better late than never…

Interesting. Well that explains why Mercedes haven't officially confirmed him for next year. I don't think Schumacher is getting preferential treatment, but if Rosberg feels that way, maybe it's time for him to move to another team. After all, he rejected an offer from McLaren before, so I doubt he'd ever sign a contract to be a no.2 driver.

The fact that he is now considering Ferrari suggests that he would have equal treatment there, which is something I'd expect to see with Domenicali in charge. I hope Rosberg does decide to move to Ferrari.

Apparently, Rosberg was in Maranello the week before the Indian Grand Prix. Massa's performance in the Indian Grand Prix could have been the catalyst for a driver change at Ferrari.

I would have really thought they'd give Sutil a 1 year deal (he was in with a semi chance a few years back, he isn't bad, and he's now free) and then hope Perez comes good for a seat in 2013.

Wow, that is pretty surprising actually. Rosberg actually in Maranello. The only question that shoots from this is .... Why?

Your problay spot on with that forza .I will have to keep my eye on this situation .It looks quite promising anyway if rosberg did move to ferrari. Who would get the second mercedes seat, i cant see massa going there he's past his sell by date. Maybe sutil could join. Next year will be very interesting in the drivers market (top teams) i can see team decisions and trash talking going to the next level in 2012 .Webber, massa, hamilton, rosberg who else's contracts run out that year.
