When I ran a steel fabrication business, my two largest outgoings after wages were gas and electricity. Looking at the proposed prices there is no way my company could have survived. Just how many other SME would? There was genuine competition to win contracts, but a false market of middle men has been created in the electricity supply industry, Government has not wanted to regulate this, so now as these middle men disappear, it is dumped in the hands of the public, companies, care homes, schools, the list goes on. The model has failed, so it is time to try something else before the country grinds to a standstill.
Excellent, BB. No such bungs for SMEs that have gone bust as a result of this mess, of course. Let them go to the wall if that is what the market dictates. This industry though is of national importance, cannot sustain itself, so there is no proper alternative to nationalisation. But they have a fear of what message that would send to Middle England, even if it is the proper thing to do. This trap we’ve fallen into, is the forehead-slappingly obvious reason it should never have been privatised.
