Good Morning. It's Tuesday 6th September, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds could end up paying £10m plus for Gnonto FC Zurich president Ancillo Canepa has disclosed that Leeds could end up paying in excess of £10m for Italian International Wilfried Gnonto. The 18yo joined Leeds late on deadline day, after moves for Hwang, Gakpo and Dieng simultaneously fell through. Media reports have suggested that Leeds were always going to sign Gnonto, but were initially going to wait until January. With three failed transfers in as many hours, the ER hierarchy were left with enough egg on their faces to make the World's biggest omelette; so, desperate to appease Leeds fans, Gnonto was signed. Canepa has hit back at media sources claiming Leeds have picked up a bargain, labelling them clueless:- “These people are clueless. (They) don’t know the contract details. The transfer took place under the conditions we had imagined. We negotiated well and didn’t let ourselves be disturbed; even if the transfer was only registered five minutes before the end of the window.” please log in to view this image Cresswell excelling at Millwall Charlie Cresswell is starting to have a massive influence at Millwall. The 20yo (just) has started five out of the eight league games for the Lions, as well as one substitute appearance; during which, he has become one of their most influential players. With three goals, and two man of the match awards, Whites fans could be excused for wondering whether we loaned the right defender out. His aerial ability has been staggering too. 'Whoscored' have awarded him a rating of 4.7, the equivalent of Klich, Harrison, Adams, Arronson, Bamford, Gelhardt, Roca and Kristensen combined. Unfortunately, the same can't be said of Jamie Shackleton. Although he's started 7 out of 8 of the league fixtures (and substitute in the other), he has failed to have the same kind of influence as his Leeds teammate, languishing in 14th place on Millwall's 'Whoscored' register, 13 places lower Cresswell. please log in to view this image Pundit slams ref for double standards Former player, now pundit Chris Sutton, has accused referee Robert Jones, and VAR coordinator David Coote of double standards are ignoring Leeds appeal for a penalty, after Crysencio Summerville was bundled to the floor during Saturday's encounter at Brentford. Having already awarded a dubious spot kick to their opponents in the first half, Leeds were due the benefit of the doubt, but staggeringly, the incident wasn't even reviewed. Sutton said: "In Brentford against Leeds, Ivan Toney won a penalty when referee Robert Jones was told by VAR David Coote that there was a foul by Luis Sinisterra. He was right — there had been and this was a worthy spot-kick. "But then when Leeds’ Crysencio Summerville was dragged down by Brentford’s Aaron Hickey in the second half, nothing happened. No VAR intervention. No visit to the monitor for Jones.” please log in to view this image Llorente's days could be numbered Elland Road journalist Beren Cross believes Diego Llorente's days could be numbered after last Saturday's horror show in Brentford. He has accused the Spanish International of overcomplicating the most simplist of tasks, and failing to read the game. With Liam Cooper finally fit, and waiting patiently on the bench, should we expect to see them swap places? "Llorente has reverted to overcomplicating simple tasks in recent matches. The defender cannot seem to shake the habit of Cruyff turns on the edge of his own box or trying a drag-back when his team’s 4-2 down and there’s an attacker three yards away." "The 29-year-old misread a simple through-ball in the lead-up to the third goal which forced Illan Meslier off his line, failed to react to Bryan Mbeumo’s run for the fourth strike and then gave up the fifth with that aforementioned drag-back. Llorente’s at the point where he needs to be taken out of the firing line now, for his own good." please log in to view this image
Morning all Sometimes after a horror display the coach gives the player another chance to put it behind them. I think Jesse will give Llorente another start, I wouldn’t myself
Hopefully Gnoto will eventually cost 10m. It will have meant he was a roaring success. No surprises for me re Shackleton but what has happened to Llorente this season. Wheels have completely fallen off and he surely will have missed out on a World Cup spot unless a dramatic improvement. Maybe this new system doesn't suit him
Good Morning from a slightly damp Bardsey It would appear that most of the signings we made have been good with onje excellent in Sinisterra no doubt he will be sold next season unless we get new owners Lorente looks like he needs a lot of understanding and should be replaced by Cooperuntil he gets a right frame of mind Lets not dwell on Sat resultwe need to beat Forest and start gaining points
Llorente is a right sided centre back so let's see how he does when he switches back to his natural side. Would we play Cooper on the right side and expect him to do well for example ?
Forest result is huge because unlikely to get many points from following one. Maybe its our turn to get a dubious penalty there though
Seems we have 2 Italian Internationals now Jammy is right Llorente is a RCB and been doing a job because of injury to Cooper and Struijk who is covering at LWB. Struijk would have covered for Cooper under normal circumstances, so maybe Cooper will be ready for the weekend. Mind you Llorente still needs to be told his job is to defend, not try and be Zico and needs to get tight to forwards without falling over, using wrong leg to tackle or allowing the ball to run between his legs
Do you feel he had a decent season last season? I thought his wheels came off early last season, I was hoping it was Bielsa man to man marking that didn’t suit him and he’d improve this one.
That was his 2nd chance. He was the **** up for Evertons goal the previous game. Has to be dropped for Forest.
His mistakes aren't because he is on the 'wrong side'. At this point he is a liability. His mind seems elsewhere as he dithers with the ball. He needs taking out of the firing line.
All his mistakes are because he feels uncomfortable with his positioning and it's usually when he's come over to the right side and is concerned about the massive space he's leaving over to his left. Normally he'd not have to worry about that as there would be the left side centre half (Cooper or Struijk) to cover. So yes his mind is elsewhere as he's out of his natural position and it's exactly the same when in possession as well. Not sure if you're aware but he's not very good with his left foot and so he can't just turn inside and play the square pass to Cooper etc as he would usually, instead he's limited to looking solely to his right which severely limits his options. Just play him in the position he's played his whole career and he'll be fine.
I think we were right loaning Cresswell out, rather he played most weeks at championship level that sit on the bench getting 10 minutes here and there, and don't forget he got dropped for a few games at Millwall too, his heroics Saturday were off the bench, big difference from that to playing week in week out in the PL. The £10m will only be paid if all the inclusions are achieved, so it will be money well spent. Llorente hasn't been on it for 12 months now, we definitely need to be looking at a solid CB in January but it won't happen. I think most fans know there was many **** ups from the officials over the weekend, we got 2 in one game.
Sometimes you think these things even themselves out, then I saw this and my heart sank, it won't be against Forest, infact it will more than likely go against us again. Taylor, Tierney, Dean could it be any worse.
Didn't Bielsa say all players should be able for three positions. What's LLorentes three. Asking for a friend
dean is enough the sniveling weasel will be smirking at the screen as he delivers a no way hose to anything that is put in front of him regarding us
Well in the victories against Wolves & Chelsea we got away with it but eventually the mistakes come and usually from players playing out of position. Jesse is ruining Llorente and he gave Dan James zero opportunity in his preferred position as well. Square pegs again I'm afraid.
Players occupying other positions this season Struijk Llorente James Sinisterra Struijk has done no worse than Firpo, so can be seen as a success. Sinisterra is a left winger but has played left, right and as mobile 10, so has to be seen as a success, but the other 2 for me have been pants. Llorente has has had a great pre season and first couple if games but found wanting the last couple. Felt for James because he should never have been signed, but you cant see he didnt try with the cards he was dealt
Struijk has performed to an acceptable level and that's all in my opinion. If we'd had a proper left back of decent quality then I think we'd be a few points better off as it would make us a better all round team. Put simply he doesn't have enough pace to play full back and any ball in behind him and he's done for. Maybe it's just been so long since we had someone in Dorigo's category that we've all forgotten what one looks like.
