I know I'm a miserable old git but I have thought exactly the same. How long will VT put up with this? It is Morison's squad. VT gave him £2m plus to play with - more than many Championship managers got. If he can't stop the rot in the next 4 or 5 games he will have to go as we will be so far behind the curve it will make just staying in the division so much harder let alone mid table security with a base for next season. And this is only the start of September ffs.
I questioned on the Millwall match day thread whether we should be worried after such a poor defeat. I concluded we did. I have no reason to change my view.
Well, sorry to be like a salmon (put your rod away Remote!) and to continue swimming upstream against the flow of despondency here but all it's going to take is one or two wins again (like the Norwich and Brum games) to get us back into gear and feeling upbeat again. Yes, I understand that right now it's hard to see where/how that will happen, but as I said earlier, plenty of our games that we've lost, we could, on another day have gotten something out of them with either better, more confident finishing or just a slice of luck. Robinson has had half a game so far, hopefully when he beds in, he can be that bit of additional experience and guile we need up top. You'd hope O'Dowda is close to a return now as well. We were pretty much in agreement that mid-table, with a change of squad and style could be deemed a successful season, after 8 games I'm not seeing too much to make me worry that we can't achieve that. We do clearly have a bit of work to do defensively (jck's comments about the defence being more important could well be prophetic ) to get back to where we were at the start of the season (losing JC was clearly a big blow) but to talk of getting rid of the manager so soon is just far too much of a knee jerk reaction for me.... Morison needs to be given at the very least until Christmas in my book. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will the CCFC Revolution either.
Ok, let's look at it this way. Say for arguments sake we'd managed to finish off one of the numerous chances v Preston and had clawed a point out of each of the Millwall and Wurzle games, thus putting us on 12 points, level with the Wurzles and pushing amongst the play-off challengers as they stand.... Would we all be doom and gloom as we currently are on here? I suspect not. So, thing is, had we managed to achieve the above in each of those games in isolation, would we have been shocked or surprised by such results given the balance of play in each? Again, I suspect not. Perhaps in the Wurzle game we'd have considered ourselves a tad fortunate, but we absolutely had the chances to get a point out of a game that we had to throw a total newbie into at centre back and push Ng to his unnatural left back role... It's pretty much been fine margins for us that we've fallen to wrong side of until now. I'm just confident that we'll start to take some of our chances sooner rather than later and that it will begin to make a big difference for us.
As usual I can't help but admire your positivism Brizzle. If Clingo was around we would probably be having a conversation about Bruce, logical positivism and the sheep dip. No offence Remote. However it is a case of aunty, bollocks and uncle. We didn't get those breaks and now sit at the top of the bottom three in the first week of September. There is much to be admired in the changes Morison has made and better quality football in the middle third of the pitch. However, as I feared, the loss of Flint, McGuinness and, so far, Morro has left us very lightweight at the back, particularly in the air - look at the goals conceded in and around the six yard box. I'm not sure how that can be corrected before January unless Simpson and Denham can show their mettle. The issues up front have been documented to the nth degree and we all hope the return of a fit O'Dowda and Robinson fitting in with his new team mates can help that. Wurzels will tell us O'Dowda blows hot and cold so can we rely on that to any great extent? The loss of Collins was bad news. Nkounkou looks very good going forward but not so hot defending. Should Bagan be given another shot? Having a fit Adams will further bolster the midfield with Ralls to be benched. Isaak Davies will give us another edge at the business end of the field but he is not a striker. His pace can help make space for Robinson to do his work. All together lots of ifs buts and maybes. Plus we need a bit of luck to fall our way. If nothing goes for us then we are in serious trouble and a change of approach will be needed to get us up the table. Return to a back five maybe? As I have said previously in nearly 60 years of watching football I have seen similar warning signs before my clubs end up in the soft and smellies. We certainly have a good range of talent at the club but can Morison, a relatively inexperienced manager, work some magic to turn things around? It has to start this Saturday. We cannot start to fall adrift.

Good posts here team - glass half full ie the opportunities will start to go in rather then just hit the post and the defence will come better with set pieces or half empty ie they won’t and we’ll suffer week in week out due to poor finishing and weak defending?
There is nothing wrong with the players and Morrison has a lot of good points, get a striker and we score goals sack the manager and suddenly we win games? The real issue here is we have won just 2 games from 8 so if we fail on Saturday that will be 2 in 9...I don`t think Morrison has any idea how close he is to the sack. I am not saying sack Morrison he will get it right but this is a cut-throat division and he is cutting his own throat, give watters a few games but to use him in every game was suicide.
The big question is not how long we think Morison should be given but how long will the board give him, 1 game? 2? .....more? We have a good team, but us not scoring builds confidence in the opposition, defensively we are starting to fray around the edges. This needs to stop and it needs to stop Saturday or Morisons days are numbered for sure.
Well said. I guess the big question is what can SM do to fix the situation. Do we have friendlies set up for the WC period? Not sure if we'll have many of our boys on duty in Qatar, but it seems to me that it's about practice, practice, practice. You're right about the demotivating effect on our defence though I'm sure SM will come down hard on anyone playing the blame game. The market proved how difficult it is to get an accomplished striker so we can't rely on that. So we are where we are and I genuinely believe we have the personnel to turn this around. I hear Ebou Adams is very close, possibly fit to play very shortly, could make a difference in the box
