Cracking race. I think the second horse threw it away at the furlong when he wanted to hang in. Congrats Dex.
Great race, Red Cadeux so unlucky. Thought Buick rode almost perfectly on Lost In The Moment-yet again beautiful tactical position, possibly could have done with a switch to the outside. Ran really well. Americain...what an effort in 4th!!
Cyclonic, the race reminded me more of a Steward's Cup than a two mile race. Do they always fan right across the course when they come round the final bend? Great finish for the neutral observer but Americain looked unlucky- he had an awful lot to do and ran round the whole field.
Yeah, for the most part they spread on the bend Tam. Once they begin to crank it up, they have no choice but to go deep on the corner. With 23 of them looking to get into the race, it can become the charge of the light brigade.
Mourayan was lame the other day so should he of got into the final declarations forcing bauer(i think) out? mark johnston said it was a fast pace early on but dont know what race he was watching. maybe he judged it on the fact jukebox jury couldnt go with the pace early on. lemaire said it was slow early on.with most the field pulling or been keen early and they took the same amount of time to get to the first bend as last years race but was on faster going this year,id say they went slower than normal for the ground conditions. i was more impressed with dunadens geelong cup win when i went through a few replays than of the other trials.
Ron is there anyway we can get a Sticky going with the Pricewise selections for each days racing, in general? So often hear about the number of winners he gives, would be good to get it on a thread (if anyone has access - I understand you have to actually buy the bally thing?)
Have been having trouble accessing Not606 from the office in the last week as the Muppets that run the place think that everybody is a gambling porn addict and have a stupid system called Websense that has been blocking Not606 every other day as “tasteless” (I read it’s been having trouble with spammers). The gamblers all use their mobiles to get on Ladbrokes.com instead! Interesting result in the Melbourne Cup. Effectively the first four home were Europeans: French winner, British second, recent German import third, French fourth. The Aussie handicapper will be giving foreign raiders a couple of kilos extra next year to give the home team a chance. Pearl Bloodstock is owned by Sheikh Al Thani, one of the guys from Qatar who sponsor the British Champions Series and Arc weekend through different conduits. It is strange that they started out buying the World Cup and a couple of high-profile race meetings and now they want to get in on the action. Most of the Al Thani clan’s visibility as horse owners until now has been in the Pure Arab racing – hence the two races on the Arc weekend cards where they seem to own half the runners every year.
Cyc, I was not referring to where they were bred but where they were trained. Eleven of the field were trained outside Australasia. The third horse was trained locally but only in its last race having just been imported. In the same way that we in Blighty never give it a second thought when we see a horse that was bred in Ireland, Aussies probably think nothing of seeing New Zealand breds on their shores.
True QM, NZ horses are part and parcel of our racing. But having so many imports who raced in Europe in the last 12 months, added to the visitors, makes for dismal reading over here. I guess having the race turn into a benefit for visitors is one of the prices you have to pay when the race goes International. There is a thought here that this is one of the first Cups to have taken on a Northern Hemisphere racing pattern. The way they ambled to the straight the first time, was unlike anything seen of late. Some are saying, "Well, what did you expect? It was in reality, a European race run on Australian turf."
So what they are saying Cyc is that the Australians let the Europeans dictate the tactics. Sounds a bit feeble to me.
Is this Pricewise or Pricewise Special Oddy? Do you have to buy the selections or just buy the Racing Post? Would we be in trouble if we plastered his selections on here?
