How long before the usual Tory think pieces of "Well you never see Labour with a female leader..." - which somehow ignore the Tories have given three very good reasons to not have one Case in point...
Our new PM elected by 81,326 votes. Doesn't seem like that many for such an important job! Also don't forget that Truss was only third on the first ballot among Tory MPs. She was first choice of only 50 of them! (Sunak and Mourdant beat her.) My main underwhelmed reaction is "is she the best we can do?". Even Sunak seemed to know a bit about economics, even though I disagree with his politics.
Like many people, I have often wondered in the last year or two how on earth we managed to end up with BJ as PM. Having seen at close quarters now the calibre of the two "fantastic" contenders for the succession, and thus assuming that these are the best candidates available, I think I now understand how.
Her appointment as prime minister is to this country, as Nuno's appointment was to THFC. She lacks the talent, skills and character to address any of the issues we face. She might as well have the title 'Temporary PM', as she's unlikely to see out 12 months before she has to replaced by some other wholly unsuitable, detestable **** wit.
She's the ERG candidate, as they see her as a clueless vessel that they can control to do their bidding Not to be mistaken with the last ERG candidate who they saw as a clueless vessel they could control to do their bidding, who turned out to be a narcissistic psychopath so needed replacing with a clueless vessel the ERG can control to do their bidding...
This is entirely unfair to Nuno, who did a good job at Wolves and seems like a nice bloke. Wholly unsuited to being the Spurs manager, but not entirely incompetent and unlikable. Truss is more like one of those completely forgettable Watford managers. A Nigel Pearson or Billy McKinlay. I suspect that both of them are better at conducting a press conference, though. That's including the infamous, "Are you an ostrich?", one by the bloke who benched Vardy and Kane.
I didn't say he was unlikable...that was Mourinho...and AVB...and Santini (who was entirely incompetent as well). He was utterly incompetent when faced with his target of securing CL, whilst embodying Levy's 'Tottenham DNA' and attacking football. He was more likely to achieve unpowered flight than do that.
The obvious first question to ask her is whether she supports 'first past the post' as an electoral process.
She also seems to be the "I didn't stab Boris in the back" candidate, which I gather went down well with a proportion of the Tory members. We might add to that the (hopefully really small) minority who voted for the "less brown" candidate. There was also a suggestion that if Boris was on the ticket against either or both of these two he would have won! Basically it seems there is a chance that Boris helped choose his successor despite his ... er... lack of suitability for the top job himself.
You can guarantee that she will carry on ensuring the rich get richer and whatever plans she has to tackle the energy bills crisis, they won’t result in any decrease in the mammoth profits the energy companies are making. She is from the right if the Tory party so we are unlikely any changes of any substance. The only difference is that whatever shenanigans she gets up to, she won’t be as indiscreet or brazen as that buffoon Boris.
In 1996 she completed her PPE degree, switched from the Lib Dems to the Tories and started working for Shell. Hardly surprising that she's still in their pocket.
