So is this graph just central defenders?

Marcelino Núñez and Josh Sargent both feature in the current Whoscored top 20 Championship players, Núñez (7.33) at 12, Sargent (7.25) at 17.

That’s interesting as synthetically it would seem quite low - assuming there is a near direct correlation between a team’s average rating for all players and its position in the table. That would suggest that our players are more consistently throughout the squad getting decent ratings together, rather than individual brilliance

Or were they all shocking the first 3 games or so whilst gelling/ getting over the PL hangover, which is still weighing on the score?

    <laugh> maybe

Who is our third highest rated player and only other one in the top 50 Robbie?…

    EDIT: see here https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/2...TeamStatistics/England-Championship-2022-2023

We are in fifth, but it’s not directly correlated as you can see Sunderland and Preston are higher

In the team ratings, we are equal 5th with Burnley. Sheffield United are in 1st place.

At a guess, it's that good Championship defender, Grant Hanley ......

Our ratings for Coventry certainly seem to be high throughout the team. Dowell even got a 7.0 after coming on as sub and scoring.

Surprised to see Byram so low.

I thought he had a good game.

    Still, stats don't lie <whistle>

Byram was subbed around 70 minutes and Cantwell after 80 which reduces their ratings compared to those playing the whole game. Also Byram went off before Dowell scored so didn't get the .1 bonus those playing got. Had he been fit enough to stay on he probably would have finished around 7.5 like many of the others.

Nice for Sorensen, who often seems to get slagged off despite the fact that he has never really let us down.

In my opinion, English fans tend to overestimate players like Williams, who wear their heart on their sleeves, and underestimate the quiet guys unless they are truly outstanding (e.g. Skipp).

Jack-of-all-trades suffer, too (e.g. the flak that McLean gets sometimes, when he has been a very good servant to the club).

    Agree 100 %.

    Vrancic was a similar case.
Outstanding imo, but never really appreciated by most fans

Well my criteria for Smith was fifteen points after ten games. So I suppose that has to be seen as success.

Given that we now have 16 points from 8 games, Smith has overcome our slow start (1 point from the first 3 games), having righted the ship and we're on course for automatic promotion. There's still a long way to go though, but Sara is getting closer to full fitness and Hayden may also be available soon. The next stage is where we are when the World Cup break comes in November.

Yes, those of us who are very doubtful about Smith have to hope we are wrong because he's going nowhere.

The real test starts on Friday, when we play our first serious rival for promotion. At the moment we have played five out of the bottom six, and only Sunderland and Hull from the top half: one of these a promoted club, and the other settling in a lot of new players. Can we lift our game when we take on the better sides? Win, draw or lose, we'll probably find out a lot on Friday.

Has anyone slagged him off? I don't remember anyone doing so. On the contrary, people have repeatedly praised him for stepping into the breach when asked, and never letting us down, leaving everybody mystified as to why he was never given a decent run in what is said to be his favoured position. He played in defensive midfield in our two opening fixtures. I don't recall him picked out for particular criticism on those occasions either.
