And that explains why I ended up unhappier than most on here. We rather reverted to our safe keep the ball tactics and didn’t take enough risks I thought Wolves worked harder than us too Would have felt a bit different if we weren’t losing for 45mins
He was very good in his 20 minute cameo. Its a tough one as he did look very exciting and like he has the ability to create something from nothing. However, Arma has been in his best form in a Saints shirt this season so it would be harsh to drop him.
From what I read about Edozie he was on the cusp of the city squad last season. Played and impressed in pre season. Made the squad for the community shield. Then got injured and didn’t get a look in after that Hopefully another great signing
Based on Edozie cameo I’d be putting him straight in. He was immense. Our best team now imo is: Kwp colossus Salisu perraud Jwp Lavia Aribo stu edozie Adams
I've generally been supportive of Ely (probably more so than a lot of fans). But there's little question that he now needs to up his game. His competition for a place in our XI isn't merely the likes of Theo and Redmond anymore. Also, I've never seen him as someone with the attributes to influence the game off the bench. So either he proves himself as capable of holding his own in comparison to the new boys, or he moves on (whether in January or when his contract ends in the summer).
My guess is that Elyounoussi has played because he reliably works hard, and when solidity was a massive concern, that was important. We're much more solid at the back now though, beyond Perraud's likely fitness-related lack of pace, so we probably have the luxury now of choosing attacking players based on whether they're influential in attack. And given that we're playing on the counter more this season, that likely means more pace and dynamism, which aren't really Mo's strong suits.
A distinct possibility. Never thought I'd say this, but if he isn't ready, we really need to start Djenepo at fullback...for defensive reasons.
I have no problem with putting in 100 % effort every game from Ely / Arma.. but we don't need both of them. For me Mara definitely deserves a start now. I do wonder whether Edozie will get a start ahead of him.now.... he defiantly gets you off your seat and gets the crowd going with his directness.. haven't had that since Mane.
I am listening to TSP and they are discussing it in the terms of "starters" and "finishers" and that Ralph seemingly thinks Ely is more reliable in that starter role. But with that in mind that points to me the obvious areas where we need a reinforcement - his position - the starting, ball controlling player on the right of the front three Apparently that is not Stu Armstrong. And it doesn't seem to be Mara or Edozie. Was that the intention for Gakpo? I thought he mainly played off the left but could play across the front line. Unlike Leeds I expect us to draw a line under that pursuit and look to other targets. But it would seem the areas where we will be looking for next (in terms of upgrades / squad) : - A "10" to replace Elyounoussi (seemingly it would be ideal if he is right sided or can play there) - A new number 9 - ideally an upgrade on Adams but perhaps also someone who could play with him in a 4-2-2-2. - Someone else who can play the role Lavia does - only if it seems AMN can't once he gets his fitness up (as that seemed to be a big whole in the side / system and maybe a reason to switch until we have someone who can do the "lonely 6" role). But hopefully AMN is that player The first on that list seems like something that might be possible in January and certainly seems like what we were attempting with Gakpo? Or would Gakpo have taken Armstrong's place and we still play Ely? I'd be surprised if the second is given the cost of strikers. But I was surprised when browsing transfermarkt at whose contracts are expiring next summer. On paper someone like Thuram seems ideal (haven't watched him) as he can apparently play central and wide and is tall, quick and strong. But I expect he is letting his contract run down for a much bigger club such as one of the big boys in Italy or Germany.
This post, if it were made a few months ago, would have been worthy of a stern rebuke, widespread concern and a thorough psychiatric assessment.
Bet that's the first time he's been called immense, looks like a U15 player! Silky skills but I'd like to see a bit more of him before I put him in for Adarma right now who has been really solid since the start of the season and doesn't look as breakable. After Tino & Lavia, I'd like to see us easing these U19/U21 players in.
