Football was most popular after WW2 because most people worked Saturday morning and went straight to football. There wasn’t much else to do for cheap entertainment. Crowds are the highest they have been since the 1960s. The Championship average of around 27,000 is higher than most leagues in Europe, only the PL, Bundesliga and a couple more beating it. Film stars, pop stars, racing drivers, golfers and tennis players are overpaid compared to more useful people. It is the market.

Well they have had almost 60 years playing in the top flight, which they have won, twice, so that might have something to do with it. Also they are not one of the "top 6" indeed they are the opposite of tge top 6, so are seen as a good underdog to support. If we had had their history we would oossibly be a bigger draw, but right now?

Although Burnley does have a lot of towns surrounding it (for who they are the nearest big club). To name a few off the top of my head, Skipton, Colne, Barnoldswick, Clitheroe, Nelson.

And they have more big clubs nearby competing for the glory hunters. Even TWS are nearer.

The opinion that Boro have never won anything is news to their fans, and Steve McClaren. :emoticon-0100-smile

So, the larger city of Hull, with less competition in the surrounding area, including thevEastbRiding with no other clubs, should do better than them?

The League Cup? Such a Mickey Mouse tournament hat only 1,500 went to watch our semi final first leg in it at Old Trafford? Boro took 10,000 to a league cup match there so took it more seriously,<laugh>

Mickey Mouse perhaps, but officially classed as a major trophy, and that is a FACT.. Odd game football, we took thousands to Old Trafford in 1987 and some City fans didn't get in until nearly half time, I saw the kick off as I'd bought a ticket in advance, a lesson I've always followed since. :emoticon-0100-smile

Yes. The only opened a couple of turnstiles. There was a fuss when their coppers got heavy handed with a City fan who was complaining. Turned out he was an off duty Superintendent. He put a complaint in which saw action dropped against some City fans, including one I knew from Brid. Of course by the time of that semi final we had joined the big boys and seen us play them a couple of times so the day trippers and their wide eyed kids going on the trip of a lifetime, as John Stonehouse described the Thrilla At The Villa, weren’t interested. Same with the 6,500 Tigers On Tyneside. (Didn’t the HDM love to jump on the bandwagon then and run City down the rest of the time?)

We always quote what is in the city boundaries. So to keep it level we should do the same for other places.

My abiding memory of that match is of someone who shall remain nameless (he of the solo pitch charge against Sunderland at BP) dipping into the hot dogs of the cart that was turned on its side by City fans, that and the vendor fleeing with his coat covered in mustard and ketchup!

Yes. People quote the population in the city boundary then quote the metropolitan area for Sunderland for example to explain why they have bigger crowds than us. Or the whole of Norfolk for Norwich. Of course Im do the same with White ****e fans, quoting the Metro population to show their support as even crapper than it is for the biggest one club city.<laugh>

Do we have any idea who hasn't been registered? I believe a few have to miss out from the 25

Baxter, Ingram (Lo-Tutala who doesn't need to be registered)
Greaves, Fig, Jones, McLoughlin, Elder, Fleming, Christie, Coyle
Woods, Slater, Simons, Seri, Traore, Tufan, Doc, Salah, Pelkas
Sinik, Vale, Longman, Estupinan, Sayyadmanesh, Tetteh

That would leave Cannon, Williams, Smith, Scott, Emmanuel and Callum Jones

When can the list be updated? Presumably it would have to tie in with January transfer window? If that’s the case, would you have Sayyadmanesh or Traore (even Doc) taking up a slot when they may only be available for a month?

January I think. I can see Traore being left out to give him chance to get fit. Sayyadmanesh should be fit after the world cup, so he would miss the 4 games in December if we decide not to register him.

Greaves, Allahyar, Lo Tutala, Longman all don’t need to be registered.

You’d imagine Chadwick, Scott, Emmanuel, Cannon, Williams don’t get registered. That’s 9 in total surely there isn’t more than 25 others?
