Used to wind a Wednesday fan I worked with up by calling him a Wessie. They insist they aren’t as they are South Yorkshire. Used to say to him there are only 3 Ridings, it stands for a third, and we are stood in one of the three, the East Riding, up the road is the North Riding. Sheffield are in neither of those. There is no South Riding except in the Winifred Holtby novel. That leaves just one, the West Riding, ergo you are a Wessie.
