It was only a yellow for me. Ref got it spot on.

 

So according to that you can take your studs down someone's shin and stamp on his foot and it's a yellow.

Or just hit the shin and it's a red.

Absolute joke when I heard that. He may has well have just said 'it's Virgil van Dijk and the ref won't dare send him off'

 

Pickford made some quality saves

 

It was a poor explanation from Walton (who is generally terrible), but I think he was talking about where the full contact is made and the weight distribution changes.

If someone catches your shin with their studs and then the full contact is made on your foot, it's sore.

If the full force of the tackle is on your shin, then it might break your leg.

There is a difference in my opinion. Van Dijk's wasn't any worse than Tarkowski challenging for the ball with his studs high a minute earlier in my opinion.

 

He's certainly not helped the situation which such a bizarre comment
