Not sure if this has been done today but if it has I can just delete the thread anyway.

Anyway, just read that Louie Sharpe, Billy Sharp's son died 2 days ago, yet he played today and scored.

Plus the ref didn't book him for taking his top off to show a tribute t-shirt, fair play to him.

A sad but strangely uplifting story.

    RIP

Found this on his wiki page...
"Despite failing to reach this milestone, bids still came in for Sharp in the summer window, Doncaster rejected two bids, £2.3m from Ipswich Town and £3.25m from Southampton although recent speculation suggests that Newcastle United may be about to test Doncaster's resolve with a £5m bid and they are rumoured to be prepared to offer Sharp the number 9 shirt in a bid to convince the player to make the move."

    This is news to me.

Massive respect for him, an admirable thing for him to be able to play a game. Reminds me of that wonderful moment when Lovenkrands played and scored for us after his father died.

Such a sad story and massive credit to him. Nice to see a bit of common sense from the ref too. Although wouldn't it just be typical of the FA if they turn round and fine the ref in some way for not adhering to the rules.

I don't think even the FA would stoop that low.

They'll let it slide to avoid uproar.

Loved the minutes applause... The minute's silence always seems like a cup half-empty gesture in truth.

Glad he scored, he looks a decent player. Good luck to him in the rest of his career

I dunno. I'm not trying to criticise the guy, but at times like that surely there are more important things than football. I know people deal with grief in their own ways, but if your kid has just died it seems a little inappropriate to go out and play sports.

Again, I'm not criticising him, it just makes me feel a bit uneasy.

Maybe a bit of physical sport would help relieve the pain, and help get his mind off it a bit.

People deal with things in different ways mate.

Credit to Billy <applause> He's a cracking player, and clearly a cracking bloke too.

Great story and one that restores some of my lost faith in our great game. I understand your sentiment Kid Canary and I think many would think the same way. I went straight to work the day after my father died. He was no age really and it was a monumental blow as I'd not long had my first daughter (his first grandchild), he'd only seen her twice. I couldn't face sitting around thinking about nothing else all day, picturing his face, and for once found work therapeutic. Everyone deals with loss in different ways, and you never know how you will till it happens. There is no prescriptive way to do so and even what can seem callous to some is the best way to others.

Very sad indeed and the reality is it's still sinking in so the goal won't help in the long run
