Swansea City v QPR Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 3 September 2022 Kick off - 3:00pm Following their 1-1 away draw at Stoke, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a tricky looking home fixture against QPR. On Wednesday evening, Alex Neil's Stoke City reign began with a draw thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Tyrese Campbell which cancelled out Joel Piroe's early close-range finish. The Swans, who have been struggling for form - one win in fourteen competitive matches - almost gifted Stoke an early opener when their repetitive and hapless goal-kick routine ended with Andy Fisher gifting possession to Lewis Baker. Stoke's captain was unfortunate to see his 40-yard shot cannon back off the bar, with Fisher recovering - just - to paw Dwight Gayle's follow-up header off the line. The Swans were wobbling, yet went in front thanks to their first attack of the game as Matt Grimes swept the ball wide to Matty Sorinola who delivered a perfect cross for Piroe and the Dutchman guided the ball beyond a goalkeeper Jack Bonham. However, substitute Campbell swept in to make it a decent night for Neil, who was in the dugout for the first time since being named Stoke boss. His new side climb to 16th in the early-season table, while Swansea edge out of the drop zone into 21st. The previous evening, an excellent first-half display fired Queens Park Rangers to an emphatic Championship win as Hull's away day blues continued at Loftus Road. Rangers were quickly ahead through a superb solo effort from Ilias Chair who took the ball from Tigers defender Alfie Jones, and raced goalwards before sending a 25-yard curling effort into the top corner. Former Swan, Ethan Laird then slid in to meet Kenneth Paal's inviting cross and claim his first career goal before Chris Willock made it 3-0 at the break, finding the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Tyler Smith denied the hosts their first clean sheet of the season when he latched on to a ball over the top and rifled a consolation past Hoops keeper Seny Dieng. The victory lifted Rangers to 9th in the Championship table. The Swans have played QPR on 53 previous occasions, winning 16, losing 22 with 15 games drawn. In the corresponding fixture last season, and as had been the case the year before, Rangers ran out 1-0 winners: Turning to Saturday, the away point at Stoke has probably bought Russell Martin some breathing space, although some would argue that, yet again, his substitutions have disrupted the team. Additionally, the goal kick routine is an accident waiting to happen and opposition Managers are clearly preparing their players to press and wait for the inevitable mistake…. Furthermore, controlling (the majority of) possession does not mean that you are controlling the game if the opposition are happy to let you play around with it in your own half. Arguably, the opposition are in control as they are set up defensively, and waiting to pounce. The QPR match is, in many respects, a ‘huge’ match for Russell Martin and as Rangers are so good on the break, they are one of the last sides that he would want to play at this stage of the season when the Swans are yet to win at home. If QPR score first, and we are continuing to play slow, purposeless football, then the crowd could turn on Martin. I truly hope that that isn’t going to happen, but if we play the usual ‘Martinball’ against Rangers, I think that we could lose 1-3. I hope I’m wrong
As always thanks Taff. I'm with you on this one sir,1-3 QPR. Just no confidence in the managers ability to make the correct decisions at the correct times.
Excellent write up there Taff Has some cynicism and frustration crept into your match post? Who could blame you though Comfortable away win. Maybe 0 - 2. I think QPR will be content to control the game once they've gone ahead. By control, I mean in footballing terms, tactically, not aimless passing about in their own half.
I have a soft spot for the Swans as I think the Gower is the best part of the UK. That said, I was at the QPR vs Swans game at Loftus Road last year and was almost bored to tears by the pace of the Swansea build up play. We weren't much better. Let's hope for a little more excitement from both sides this weekend. You Rs!
Not sure if god will know what the score will be, as we keep on shooting ourselves in the foot. Not expecting anything different in this one, 1-1
My mother and father meet there on a New Years Eve do back in late 50’s, way before it was called Cinderella’s.
Swansea City has completed the signing of defender Fin Stevens on loan from Brentford, subject to international clearance. The 19-year-old becomes Swansea’s seventh signing of the summer window following the arrivals of Nathan Wood, Harry Darling, Matty Sorinola, Joe Allen, Luke Cundle and Armstrong Oko-Flex. The Wales Under-21 international has made 10 first-team appearances for the Bees, having joined them after coming through the ranks of the Arsenal academy and having a short spell in non-league football with Worthing. He initially joined the Brentford ‘B’ team, but was soon promoted to the first-team set-up. Stevens made his Premier League debut as a substitute in a defeat to Southampton in January of this year. He bolsters Russell Martin's options on the right flank following the recent shoulder injury suffered by Joel Latibeaudiere.
We will be a gift to QPR, I am expecting them to put 3 or 4 past our **** defense, as for the rest of the game it will be the usual passing on Prozac....
