From a distance the solution for the UK seems simple. Don't provide any more than that provided by the least generous country on the migrant route. Then they wouldn't risk their lives to get to the land of plenty. It doesn't solve the migrant problem though but perhaps it would get other countries to focus a bit better.

As an outsider looking at a country that has broken it's ties with Europe and has had a Conservative government for a long time, not particularly noted for its left wing woke views, and currently one with a significant majority why can't they just do what the people who elected them want.
If only they were right wing - that would sort it, but unfortunately they’re not. The most left wing Conservative Government ever, and the alternative is Labour, who are even further to the left. No wonder we’re ****ed.

Seriously though what is driving the UK to be so generous, it beggars belief. You know my general politics but this stance of the UK could be driving the migration for those who have nothing they see nirvana so close it makes it worthwhile purchasing a dingy and taking the risk.

I don't know if we have or not but it currently stops hundreds of people dying in the sea. It doesn't solve the migrant problem though. There are those with and those without in the world and a communication system that allows everybody to see that.
