It depends on the interpretation of ‘over the head’ as stated in the rules. I think the ball was released in front of his head,. Actually most throws-ins are foul throws a majority are not taken from the point the ball left the field of play. That is particularly noticeable when the ball goes out near the corner flag. Attackers go back a few metres. Defenders advance a few metre
I think it's a bit harsh to criticise Sanchez for it, to be honest. I'll just use the "foul throw?" clip to illustrate what I mean: If you look at the still image, then you'll see that Sanchez is there to deal with Benrahma (22). Soucek has to run past Bissouma and Hojbjerg without being picked up. Sanchez waits for Emerson to get back to cover Benrahma, then moves over. Considering that he's the RCB, I don't think that he did a lot wrong.
Agreed. Bissouma moved towards the ball carrier leaving Hojbjerg to deal with Soucek but Hojbjerg was too busy talking to the ref to notice. It's not the first time he has done something similar. He just doesn't have the discipline to defend properly in my opinion.
The number of Laws that simply don't get enforced is beyond a joke. If they are not necessary then change them!
Yeah I’d say the blame mainly lies between Hojbjerg and Bissouma there. Hojbjerg would’ve seen Soucek’s run whilst Bissouma was seemingly ball watching and unaware Soucek was right behind him, he didn’t have the best full debut to say the least. Sanchez then could’ve perhaps done better but I’d agree I wouldn’t lie much blame with him. Overall was just a poor goal to concede. Conte then didn’t help things either with decisions or lack of, poor game from the manager yesterday.
A pairing with more playing time together might have done a better job picking the player up (think Skipp or Bentancur instead of Biss there) but Højbjerg does need a more disciplined partner alongside him. He thrives off being able to use his energy and get about the pitch and having someone alongside him who is more of a 6 is good for his game. No excuses there though, need to be switched onto the play instead of trying to get into the ref’s ear.
In an ideal world yes, but throwing Skippy in would have been a risk coming back from injury, and Sarr would have been an even bigger risk.
Better than an injured player. He won't do much and risks making the injury worse. Sarr at half-time then Skipp for Sarr if he's not working out, perhaps? Hell, stick Sessegnon, Royal or Tanganga in there. At least they've got two working legs.
I don’t disagree. I just think there’s risks to both approaches. I can see why he stayed on the pitch.
Being pedantic but while I agree that the main fault lies with Hojbjerg for moaning while the ball was in play, there is a gap of 2-3 seconds between the end of the clip you've posted and the goal in which Benrahma is covered and Sanchez is marking thin air. Granted, it isn't his fault in principle but he needs to be more proactive than reactive in general and this is another example. Had he taken even a couple of strides out toward Soucek, he may well have prevented the goal. No one covers themselves in glory from that clip. In fact the only one who does is Dier, who shows awareness that Antonio won't use Bowen and will instead look to turn him, Dier points Davies to a deeper position to cover him incase Antonio turns him on the outside. Davies does this, blocking off that option and leaving the supposedly more guarded centre the only option. Except no one was guarding it.
