What kind of scandal involving a kettle is he trying to cover up, then? Something to do with kettling protestors, perhaps? I'm at a loss.
The ownership of the nuclear power stations is a bit weird. Boris just announced £700 million toward Sizewell 'C' of course, even though EDF will own it. I say 'own it' because I'm not so clear about who pays the full costs for decommissioning. PNP probably knows the full story on this, but I believe that EDF (which is 85% owned by the French Government of course, so not really a private firm), bought the company that owned the UK's second generation nuclear plants (called AGRs), but when they are decommissioned, the taxpayer will foot a large part (perhaps all) of the bill, which will run into billions. Not sure who will pay to decommission this station though. All a bit weird because on privatisation, one of the two generation companies at the time was created bigger because it was responsible for the extra costs of the nuclear plants. Which of course never ended up being transferred to them anyway. As I said, PNP probably knows the story better than me, but it's still a story of confusion and rather a lot of cost to the taxpayer.
