Well, when there's been a murder of course they'll respond like that. Doesn't alter the fact that up until 8pm Monday nobody had been killed. I'd also question the language surrounding this stabbing. He was stabbed 'at Notting Hill Carnival', he was actually stabbed in Ladbroke Grove, might have had bugger all to with Carnival, it was likely pretty much over by 8pm. I think you've let yourself get wound up by Corcoran's rantings, resist! Interestingly, I don't see anywhere she's banging on about all the bother at Reading festival. Tent's being set on fire, kids running riot, thieving and causing mayhem, lad dies of drug overdose... Ban that aswell? I won't get into why she might pick on Notting Hill Carnival to vent her spleen.
Going by stats in Hull the MKM on a match day is the safest place in Hull, no stabbings, rapes, serious assaults or mugggings. Doesn’t stop Humberside’s Finest charging us 5 times what Arsenal are charged for policing. Wouldn’t bother me if they banned carnival as I have no interest in going. Which of course is not the point. I would bet an event celebrating British culture which resulted in similar mayhem would soon be clampdown down on. What happened at Reading and Leeds festivals were not a lot better either. You do sometimes wonder what thematter is with some younger people in this country nowadays.
I won’t pick up on why behaviour at carnival which would result in arrests at football is given an easy ride. Anything that happens with miles of the MKM is football related. He wouldn’t have been there if it wasn’t for the carnival, he was from Bristol. His manager, he was a rapper, said he had gone to enjoy the carnival. The police said there were hundreds of people in the vicinity. They wouldn’t have been there if it wasn’t carnival weekend. So it was carnival related. And a needless loss of life. His girlfriend is expecting as well.
We're just arguing the toss now so I give up. My initial anger was directed at Sophie Corcoran's deliberately reactionary tweet.
You know as well as I do she was ****-stirring, it's her stock-in-trade, she's a wannabe Katie Hopkins.
I don't know what either of those things mean! Anyway, enough! I've other things to do. Off out now to listen to this lot, even foregoing the match...
I thought you were of an age to recall that. In Mao’s days and later in Cambodia and other communist countries every perceived enemy of the ruling clique were deemed to be 2 or all 3 of those. It was like a cliche. Enjoy your night.
Regardless of her politics, what I genuinely can’t understand is why on earth she gets airtime. She’s not a politician (once stood in a council election as a Tory but lost…which was quite impressive in 2021) She’s not a journalist. She’s not someone with any interesting lived experience as far as I can see (in fact she once failed to get a job at KFC due to a lack of experience!) She is a ‘commentator’ but not the type this board mostly listen to. So who is she and why do people care what she thinks? It’s a mystery. Actually the most interesting this about her is quite a shame really. She has the same name (and even middle initial) as an actual proper journalist who works for Yorkshire Post*. The YP one gets loads of social media **** every time the less qualified Sophie Corcoran ‘commentates’ her opinions all over the place. *The YP journalist one is also the answer to the earlier question ‘is there any good Corcoran’…
Just got back, don't know about a flap, don't care that City lost, I'm in love. What a singer, sublime.
